I get the difference between a fan reaching out onto the field and a player reaching into the stands. The former is obviously ruled fan interference, but either way, if a fan catches a ball that was going to be caught by a player, that’s interference in my book. The umps made the right call.
If you’re a fan. I can certainly understand trying to catch a fly ball, but if it looks close enough for the player to make the play, you better try and get out of the players way

I know a lot of people are butthurt about the ejection, but I mean come on, if you are a true fan of the sport and actually a decent person, you let that play out all day. You absolutely don't try to make that grab with the fielder being right there.

This won't happen in foul territory anymore with the netting.

Don Mattingly would (in a friendly way) reprimand Yankee fans in the first row who didn't try giving the opposing fielders a hard time when they were trying to catch a foul ball hit by the Yankees.

Will never forget when my Uncle who was sitting in left field first row, (in front of the cannon logo) reached out and snatched the ball, the game was not crucial to anything, I think it was an August or September game, the guy sitting next to him was apparently someone that was apart of the organization, he did not get thrown out (even though he definitely should have lol) My Dad was sitting a couple rows back and asked him if he tried reaching for the ball later on the train ride home, my Uncle said "No I barley had my arm out"... Next day front page of the sports section was my Uncle with his entire body reaching over the edge lol. Funny as hell

Jeter has gained some weight in those stands. He can still make a decent catch though I suppose.

they would have had drag me out. Pay for front row seats fuck that! So its ok for a player to jump into the stands and make a play but if a fan goes into the field by 1 inch they get ejected? Maybe a warning would be good. Its not like he throw his whole body onto the field to get the ball.

Sorry, but on close calls like this, they should err on the side of the fan. First of all, it is ridiculous to expect a casual fan to see that if the ball is one inch further in that it's takable. Secondly, we pay for those tickets. It's not right to kick a fan out over something like that.

This is ridiculous. He clearly tried to avoid reaching over the wall

gedalyahreback

If he reached over the wall to interfere? Why did the player have to lean into the stands to try to make the catch?

So why do fans get ejected? Especially if they are not actually falling onto the field. Like the whole reason there are professional sports is for fan entertainment. Call him out but let the dude stay at the game he freaking paid money for!!!!

lol the player would have missed it. His glove was behind the dude lol
