Innovative technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) are transforming and modernizing how data is generated, collected, and analyzed across different industries. Specifically, innovative data-collection mechanisms such as geographic information systems (GIS), imagery analysis, artificial intelligence, and machine learning are being applied to address and monitor complex global development challenges. These challenges include financial crises, climate change, migration flows, and pandemics. Nonetheless, while there is a global drive to make decisions based on robust data, there are certain risks and barriers surrounding its collection and use.
