Walk around the May Day Market in the district of Tikkurila in city of Vantaa, 1st of May 2022, Finland.

May Day is a European festival of ancient origins marking the beginning of summer, usually celebrated on 1 May. In Finland, May Day / Walpurgis night is called Vappu and it is one of the four biggest holidays along with Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and Midsummer. The earlier, pre-Christian origin of the fest in Finland was known as Toukojuhla. Vappu witnesses the biggest carnival-style festival held in Finland's cities and towns. Student traditions are one of the main characteristics of Vappu. Many lukio (university-preparatory high school) alumni wear the black and white student cap and many higher education students wear student coveralls. May Day is also a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labour movement.

Amazing video and explanation of this big day, I learnt a lot for the traditions! Despite the population of 240k, Vantaa is a calm city ( I could see this from you videos in the area). Maybe this is one of the very few days of the year, when you can see so many people around the city:))
