I AM

When I was not yet born
in the belly of my mom,
when, in hospital,
the doctor said:
“You are having a little boy
about mid-december”,
Without asking me
they gave me a role in society

They started preparing everything,
they gave me a name,
a room, for a boy
and the best clothes.
Basque ball or football,
which sport will he choose?
They had a lot of dreams
with the best intentions.

I started school at the age of two
I really liked it,
I used to play
dressed up as a princess,
at home I would often
near my mom´s skirt and necklaces
I felt so good in this
and not with other things

Rumours around
have hurt me for so long,
how I have to be and live,
was on everyone´s lips.

What I am and what I want to be,
leave me alone for once,
I am a woman and I always will be
and I need you on my side.

Oraindik jaio gabe nintzela
amatxoren sabelean,
ospitaleko bisita hartan
medikuak esatean:
mutil txiki bat izango duzu
abendu erdialdean.
Eskatu gabe ezarri zuten
nire rola gizartean.

Han hasi ziren dena prestatzen,
jarri zidaten izena,
mutilarentzat gelatxoa ta
arroparik ederrena
esku pilotan zein futbolean
nik norako ahalmena?
ilusioa handia zuten
eta asmorik onena.

Eskolan hasi bi urterekin,
gustuko nuen benetan,
printzesa jantzi eta erantzi
ibiltzen nintzen olgetan,
etxeratzean sarri amaren
gona ta lepokoetan
aurkitzen nuen nik gozamena
eta ez beste gauzetan.

Ingurukoen zurrumurruek
mindu naute luzaroan,
zer-nolakoa izan ta bizi,
beti inoren ahoan.
Ni zer naizen ta izan nahi dudan,
utzi bakean behingoan,
neskatoa naiz ta izango naiz,
behar zaituztet ondoan.
