TLX V6 Rod Knock Recall, How it sounds

preview_player
Показать описание
TLX V6 started getting the rod knock after a dealer oil change with no previous issues. They have been happening to mostly 2018 models but also 15, 16 and 19 to a lesser extent. Going in for new motor.

Update: New recall issued so no warranty needed, thank goodness for anyone with this issue outside of warranty. Mine has been running great since the work has been done

I just brought my 2018 TLX into my local Acura dealership to have the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings looked at. They called me yesterday and confirmed that I needed a new crankshaft. Thank god it’s under recall.

I bought a 2019 recently with an extended warranty. Now, I am really happy that I did.

Thanks for posting. I was wondering what it sounded like. Thank goodness I can have it repaired via the recall even though I have an extended warranty

Happy I never upgraded my mint 2013 TL 3.7L SHawd - 62k Miles - Yes, this engine has the piston ring/oil consumption issue but not mine luckily from hyper-vigilant maintenance and only used premium fuel. Best car I've ever owned.

Thanks for the video, I have a 2019 MDX SH-AWD Tech that’s on the recall rod/bearing list. Mine is CPO for 100K, only have 64K on it as of now. I love the vehicle, and would hate to get rid of it. All local Acura dealership maintained too. We’ve bought 3 cars from them, and their service dept is beyond excellent. I’ll take a free short block from the factory, although I wish it was a long block with new heads. I’m not sold with putting used heads on a new engine. I’ve looked at new 2024 MDX’s, but I’m holding off just in case this recall extends to the newer models too. Same 3.5 VTEC V6……

Mine is a 2017 TLX AWD 6 cylinder with 160, 000 miles, just had crankshaft recall service ….never had the knocking. Acura covered everything, car runs like it’s brand new.😊😊😊

I noticed a YouTube video a while back receiving a recall notice November 09 2023 on a Acura TLX 2017 with possible engine stalling or failure. This would probably explain my 2016 TLX engine failure light and engine stalling at idle determined the PCM computer failure was covered under the powertrain warranty and replaced in summer of 2023. The engine Idle continued to stall and return to service dealer and mechanic noticed a software update just a week later so American Honda has known about these engine issues. The Acura manufacturing of V6 engines between 2015-2020 must have quality control issues and hopefully resolved them moving forward. I have 2014 RDX and haven’t had any issues other than the 100K maintenance tuneup. FYI some auto insurance apps list recalls linked VIN numbers

Happened to my 2018 A Spec at 62k. Covered under warranty luckily. They advised me that it was a rod bearing gone bad

No problems with a 2019 model. The first years of the model change can be problematique but the next few ones are best from 2019 to 2023 they all work and functikn

You need an extended warranty for a recall? I thought recalls are applicable to all cars affected regardless of time or mileage?

Yea heard about friends with 2018s where it has happened. Convinced me to never by a first year vehicle or first year of a facelift

i used Mobile 1 oil on my TLX 2018 with 70, 000 miles and every month i change the oil because this car consume the oil very quick Don't wait for 7, 000 miles or 5, 000 your going to kill your engine do not follow the Dealer recommendation on the oil Change. and other tip... do not used ECO mode the VCM kill those engine.... the problem of the VCM is get clot with dirty oil and don't send the correct oil lubrication when active the cylinders.

Hey Kevin, ive commented on your channel several times not sure if you remember me but wanted to let you know Acura did good and gave me a new short block. Shes back on the road again and running better than ever. Still have to go back early spring for the inspection but im fine with that.

I had my wifes 2019 TLX Aspec taken in for a recall on the main bearings. We luckily did not have the rod knock but it took 6 months to get her car in because of the wait on parts. They also said it was taking a while because no loaner cars were available. IDC just take the car in we will get a ride. lol

going through the replacement process right now with my ‘16 kia optima, fortunately covered due to the lifetime warranty/class action lawsuit. the most ridiculous part is that my car has been serviced at the dealer for its whole life, always on time, with only 80k miles… manufacturers really need to do better!
