The fourth episode in our “Chronicles of the Desert” series introduces us to Seraphim of Sarov, a modern saint who lived much like the desert fathers of old. He followed the same counsel that Arsenios the Great received from God (flee, be silent, pray always) and lived many years alone deep within a Russian forest.

I live a similar life but less righteous. I have recently been under spiritual attack. Constant worries that my health is failing due to my life style. Then I lost the hearing of one ear. Then trouble with my eye. Something doesn't like that I'm trying and seems to be trying to put me off. I have had a week of Job like worry.... But those that persevere win the prize! So I looked to the Lord. I have taken a lesson. Today. The Peace of The Lord! Stay on the Path brothers and sisters!

Thank you for this. When I became Orthodox, 12 years ago, an Icon of Saint Seraphim was one of my first. He is holding a scroll saying ”acquire the spirit of peace and a thousand souls will be saved around you” after looking at it every day since, and after watching this, I might be starting to understand that peace. And that piece is as beautiful as it is elusive.

A deeply touching video.


My Grandpa, although Anglican, has a special devotion to an Icon of St Seraphim. He says his chotki before the icon every day, and I see it in his sitting room every time I go over there.


I would deeply appreciate the sources used for this video, as in the earlier ones. I am not all that knowledgeable on St Seraphim, but his icon of him in prayer on the rock has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember seeing my Grandpa.
