Australians have reacted to Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 US presidential election.

“I think the people voted for who they wanted to vote for and good on him,” a Sydney man told Sky News Australia on Thursday.

“I think he might be ok for the economy and for the people.”

If Australia suffers economically from US tariffs on Chinese imports it will be our own fault for relying on China as our major trading partner. We have had the chance to rectify this when China placed restrictions on our trade but instead of seeking out new avenues for our products our exporters simply cried about their situation instead of being proactive to rectify the problem. We have put ourselves into this predicament. The current government patted itself on the back when China removed some of the restrictions but always turns a blind eye on the fact we are politically opposed to each other. It's high time this country woke up and started to reindustrialise to value add to our resource sector.
