It's now WNBC-TV. It signed on the air for the 1st time on July 1, 1941, as WNBT-TV. It kept those calls till 1954, when it became WRCA, and has been WNBC since 1960. Thanks so much for this.

When WRCA-TV became WNBC-TV in New York in 1960, it took the call sign from an NBC station in New Britain, Connecticut ;the station's name only pertained to the town's name and not the National Broadcasting Company.

When I was a child WRCA-TV starting running promos saying "a big change is coming to WRCA-TV". Even children's puppet WEBSTER WEBFOOT cut one of the promos. As a child I thought they would be going all kids shows! I was deflated when it turned out to be a call letter change to WNBC-TV.

The sign-off announcer here, Jerry Damon, died in 1979.

A Friday night sign-off, as WRCA began their (1958) Saturday schedule with "THE MODERN FARMER" at 7am.
