On Tuesday, April 5, SAIS hosted a forum on "Japan's Earthquake and Tsunami: Dimensions of the Disaster and Future Prospects" featuring Ichiro Fujisaki, Japanese ambassador to the United States; Jessica P. Einhorn (welcome remarks), dean of SAIS; David Barlow, captain of the Virginia Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department; Hironori Kawauchi, senior economist of the East Asia and Pacific Region at the World Bank; Ryo Tsuzukihashi, Japanese SAIS graduate student; and Kent Calder (moderator), director of the SAIS Japan Studies Program.
