Christmas lights are 20 cent a pound here in southern USA. That ain’t a bunch but it all adds up.

Dont tell people christmas lights are worthless. Scrap yards buy it, its just not big money. There is no reason to say that, unless you want it all to go to the landfill.

I take Christmas lights. Depends on the scrap yard, but Ive been getting around 24¢ a pound for it. With Christmas around the corner everyone’s been chucking out their old not working lights, so last week I got 52 lbs of it. Came out to about $12. Not too shabby.

Correction- i work for a lighting company, we decorate big buildings.
Sometimes these decorations stop working after years of damage.

To sell them back to scraps, little over 4 grand.

Mind you this is tons of Christmas style lighting

It only took me 30 minutes to cut all the lights off, and suddenly it's worth something . Maybe I'm just not lazy

I'm trying to learn /get into scrapping metals ...any tips . How can I clean the copper wires after I take the coated plastic stuff off...what's the best . Can you always make any copper clean and bare bright again ...and what do you mean when you say % recovery

I didn't have to remove the light bulbs either, I just left them whole

Just curious, I’ve been just collecting copper for a while now prolly have about a hundred lbs. if I melt it down and make ingots is it worth more or best to just strip and clean?

If you run all that coated throught a wire stripper it becomes barebright
