The accuracy of how commercials just trashed talked parents and overhyped toys that would get broken in less than a day is on point 😂

All that was missing was the overly elaborate setting for the commercial (waterfall, beach, mountain top, rainforest) that made all of the lame toys look so much cooler.

I remember they even did this with cereal. I vividly remember an Applejack's commercial where the dad didn't understand why Applejacks didn't taste like apples and the the daughter says, "You don't get it dad." Dad says, "I guess I don't." And then she turns to the rest of the kids and says "he's old." Right in front of everyone.

I love how those adverts never seemed to realise that adults were the ones buying the thingies.

This one hurts. Almost as if I’ve simultaneously been hit with a plastic lightsaber, shot in the eye with a super soaker, shot in the other eye with a nerf gun and then finally stepped on a lego.

I deadass remember my parents complaining about that back then. They mentioned being hesitant to let me watch Nickelodeon because all of that programing was basically this tell. I remember them having a commercial saying "Kids are better for the environment than grow ups" because we used skateboards and bikes instead of cars. I said it with pride till my mom said my little smart ass can walk to school if I feel that way.

0:04 The "AWE-(HAW-HAW-)SOMEEE" is way too accurate. If I ever saw this on TV I might have thought this was a real commercial. (even with a very grown-up looking Ryan playing all the roles, including the kids)

I love how it doesn't even elaborate on what the Thingy is or what it does, it's just dedicated to bashing parents for some reason with the Thingy thrown in there as an afterthought

Now that's dedication! Ryan traveled back in time just to make this commercial for us.

These commercials were my childhood, and I can confirm this is 100% accurate: down to not being able to buy real estate

I love it when I see posts on Facebook about how "back in my day we had respect for our parents". I'm thinking, "Back in my day we have movies like Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller, and Weird Science telling us that our parents are literally the stupidest people you can imagine."

As an 80s kid, this was incredibly accurate... Even the part about how my dad was actively involved in making housing prices in Canada unaffordable.
Now he thinks I'm useless because I can't even buy a house.
If only the commercials I watched when I was ten were more respectful... None of this would have happened.

As a child of the 90's, I just experienced a roller coaster of emotions. Nostalgia trip from the toys of my youth, to being too old to "get it", to not being able to afford a house. Great video...I guess...real funny...in that it was funny...and then real.

The only thing missing from this commercial is a glow in the dark thingy ❤️

Love that the "kids" both have full beards😂 Ryan is the best

This is so dead on accurate! I was a kid in the 90s and even I remember thinking that the kids in these commercials were so bratty!

Absolutely spot on and hilariously sad!!!! I love the tearful "Oh my God" as the kids' contempt gets more and more brutal. And the kids recognizing not being able to afford real estate is going be bad. Just brilliant.

Oof, deadly accurate. I seem to remember a lot of kids movies being filled with cartoonishly evil adults as well. Really paved the way for Codename: Kids Next Door.

The fact he made this 4:3 for authenticity is amazing

I used to have a vintage wooden train set made in 1990's era Germany.
The box showed two very serious children playing with the train set. They weren't smiling and their parents weren't there cheering them on.
It was glorious. I wish I had kept it.
