Charging a 24V battery bank from a 12V Alternator

Trolling motors are becoming very popular these days. I’d be totally lost without mine. So far I haven’t used it for any actual trolling but I have come to depend on the spot lock function to getting over the exact spot I want to fish.

Mounting one to a fibreglass half cabin boat is a bit of an exercise but I have a couple of video series showing how I went about it on 2 different boats. Mounting it to my Baysport was the most challenging but a variation on my solution would suit most similar style boats.

Charging the 24-volt batteries is another matter altogether. I’ve seen a lot of videos where people mount charging systems in their boats and plug them in to charge when they get home. Since I have come to rely so heavily on spot lock, I wanted a system that would charge the batteries while I was on the water.

I now have a system that will charge the batteries from the engines 12-volt auxiliary charging outlet. This video shows how I did it.

So with this system could I run a 24v trolling motor with 2 12v deep cycles wire together then use those as a cranking batteries when I’m done using the trolling motor and they’ll charge them up?

the title is a bit confusing. The 24v battery bank you mention is actually a two 12v batteries, not a 24volt battery. Its only 24volt via electronic connecting it in series.

I'm pretty sure you can wire each 12v battery direct from a 12v charger without the trollbridge24. Just connect your 12v supply direct to each individual 12v battery (even if they are wired for 24v.)
