For molding, how does that work eith an armature? What about the pipe sticking out of him? Can the castings stand on its own?

Q: I’m trying to sculpt wolverine’s action pose. Lunging forward, chest out, arms back but have difficulty time finding some good references on how the muscles should look. Any suggestions ?
