There is a lot of factors that go into your car's handling, but have you ever thought of your center of gravity? Today Gels deep dives into some math, science, and physics as to why the center of gravity is so important on your car. From F1 to Time Attack, Drifting to Rally, balancing your car's weight is extremely important. Comment down below what you'd like to see us talk about next!

As a pilot, hearing someone in the car community explain centre of gravity and the moment of a point is usually super cringe but Gels did a great job! Top job mate

This is my first time paying attention to math

Maths without overlaying the formulas on screen? So much to memorize. Some of us are visual learners, we need even more pictures and graphs! :D

Very cool video! I've always loved the technical aspect of... things. I enjoyed physics class. I like working on my cars.

While I've not yet had the opportunity to play with my suspension, my 91 Civic was so low from the factory, I had to worry about scraping and bottoming out. An old coworker of mine lowered his 89 Prelude... to the stock height of my Civic. It handled like a go kart on rails.

Yea that lateral grip increase is legit...dropped my sonata and put wider wheels on, I have yet to hear the tires squeal with a VERY "spirited" cornering style lol

When mentioning a lower center of gravity, you also have to mention the car's roll center. Because lowering the car too much can actually hurt the handling of the car because the suspension is then "out of bounds" to where the factory has everything set at. There's even full on new subframes, control arms and even new knuckle kits out there for Evos that want to go even lower but still need to perform on track. Swift Springs is the only company I know that dives deep into making a spring that lowers your car to the lowest point before the out of bounds area and having a spring rate that matches up with your stock struts/shocks.

And James Pumphrey from Doughbut Media thought he was a #mathboy . Stand aside, Gels from fitment industries coming through

One of the best handling related changes for a car is to move that battery to the trunk. I've done it in the past and I'd do it again. You will notice if you actually drive your car fast around corners regularly.

This is why I love the Honda Fit. It has its fuel tank mounted in the middle right under the driver’s seat, giving it a very low centre of gravity. Ironically, having the fuel tank right underneath you is more safe because in an accident, it’s better protected and less likely to be damaged.

Absolutely amazing and informative video! Saved it in a playlist for future reference. Keep up the awesome work!

I was expecting pictures of low ass cars and gels say “good” “bad”

The distance between the CoG when making changes in the roll center must always be taken in consideration. Apparently, lowering your suspension alone may increase the distance between the two, thus, gives forces more "leverage" when taking corners. That explains why some aftermarket suspension arms have longer or adjustable ball joints and tie rod ends so that one can lower his car while keeping the roll center and CoG distance equal to or closer than stock

As a "Self-proclaimed NERD", I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND this Video and what you are talking about!

Alot of "Current Generation Folk" are going to be scratching their heads, thinking "Whaaaa?!

But weight Displacement means EVERYTHING when it comes to PERFORMANCE. 🤬😻
