65 Reasons Why Voltron Season 8 Was BAD (And How to Fix It!)

Voltron Legendary Defender finished its run of 8 seasons a few days ago, and with that came a wave of negative reactions from longtime fans that were unsatisfied with the ending. People were unhappy about how Allura, Shiro, and Lance were treated, as well as with many of the major events that occurred in the season. This video attempts to give an explanation to why fans feel that way, as I point out many of the biggest points of debate. I also give some possible ways the story could be fixed to get rid of some of the most glaring issues.

It was quite an eventful two and a half years with Shiro, Keith, Allura, Lance, Pidge, Hunk, and Coran, and the show definitely went out with a bang. It was a lot of fun making Voltron videos over the years, and if this is the end of this series, it is an ending to remember. I will definitely miss talking about Shiro, but he will always be with me in my heart. I also can’t forget Lotor and his generals, Matt, Krolia, Honerva, and all the other characters that helped to make this series so great. It is a shame there is so much debate about the finale, but there is no denying the impact it had on fandom as a whole. And here is a final thank you to everyone who watched my Voltron videos!!!

I'm aware that the title sounds like its from a Fantastic Beasts movie lol
But anyways, for those of you that have seen the season, what are your thoughts? Do you agree with any of what was said in the video? What were your favorite parts of the season, if any? Let us know!

I don't even watch Voltron but listening to a fan speak about their passion is really endearing.

I hate how Shiro’s character has changed from the empathetic, compassionate leader to a captain that is just distant, cold and even dull. Black Paladin Shiro forever stays.

*Voltron Season 8 in a nutshell:*
-S.S Allurance is the new Titanic
-Shiro marries some random dude
- Young Lotor is ADORABLE
-Coran couldn't even say goodbye to Allura
-Happy jokester badass sharpshooter Lance Sad lonely isolated Altean farmer Lance :(
-No relationship development between Keith & his mom, or Keith & Shiro
- Rushed relationships

By far the most unsatisfying season I've ever watched in the show

Honerva: If I can’t have a good life then nobody can!
Allura: stop pls
Honerva: ...yeah ok
*death*
The end.

Shiro not interacting with Keith just after his reveal is even worse because they could have just remained friends without any implications :) Like gay people can still have friends of the same gender you know

My biggest problem with this season is that it was rushed and had very little character development, and Alura's death Honevera should've been killed not Allura.

Me: **Sends them this**

What if Allura became The Lion Goddess instead of dying?? I would have prefered it if instead of dying she ascended to godhood but it came at the cost of her Physical Form as she would only exist on a higher realm of existance.

In my opinion, allurance had terrible setup and development. Allura spent the first 5-6 seasons not showing any interest in Lance AT ALL. And it kind of follows the dumb “guy likes girl who isn’t interested but continues to flirt with her regardless until he wears her down” trope. Then suddenly they’re professing their love for each other? They barely had any chemistry before this season and their relationship was extremely rushed.

One good thing that came out of the ending of season 8 was that we got an image of Pidge's family creating the Vehicle Voltron team which could mean a Voltron spin-off.

I hate just how much they made Lance feel like a side character, almost a satellite character, when he's supposed to be a member of the main cast. It still irks me that they never bothered to give him a definitive character ark or any kind of personal drive that doesn't involve romancing allura.

Jeez, I just realize that all those seemingly important character moments that went nowhere (ie. Him getting his new bayard form, and him FREAKING DYING) were just forced allurance development. They really did Lance dirty.

We never got an explanation for why Keith's eyes "turned galra" (idk how else to say it) for a second when he was fighting that shiro clone

3 things that also bugged me that the show had opportunity to explain to solve plot points in the show but didn't was.
1 The entity: What was the entity that Allura absorbed, maybe after she merged with it, she would understand its origins and why it existed on the other side of the rift. The season promo image featured it but other than it merging with Allura, the show didn't explain them as I originally thought they would. Throughout the series, I got the impression that the entities beyond the rift were the true villains of the show since going beyond to the rift and Zarkon and Haggar merging with them was what caused everything that happened in the show.
2. Haggar's reasoning for wanting to go the other side of the rift. I know she explains it for wanting more Quintessences, by why. I think it was because Zarkon and Haggar were having difficulties baring a child which the show did feature, but it was never brought up again. I believe going to the rift was her only way to save Lotor; I wanted her to say that to him so that he would know why she did what she did and the consequence as to why she lost her memory. Or atleast Zarkon to tell Lotor what happened so he understood.
3. The Bulmeras at the end. Coran mentions teaching Romelle how to do the Bulmeran ceremony. I think the show creators could have used this scene to explain bulmerans more and why they suddenly showed up at the end. I personally think of them as space whales and they could use long ranged vocal communication. Cosmic space whale music I'm sure would sound beautiful. :D

Just my thoughts, would have solved alot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I feel like a lot of these problems are really because they kept trying to one-up the antagonists. I almost feel like the entire series would have been better if they didn't kill Zarkon so early on. The witch's was kind of weak compared to Lotor and Zarkon, I was already hating the sudden random plot twist of the Altean colt society.if they didn't spend all that time on these complex plotlines, which I personally think is kind of too much, they would have more time for character interactions.

I think they saw the Altean-Garlan Klance fanarts and thought"oh they want altean lance, looks cool"
But got the reason wrong. Now he's just reminded to Allura for the rest of his life, while they only dated 2 weeks and they were miserable all along:S

As for the Lotor situation, they could've fixed it by having Lotor turn on the paladins as a reflex. If he felt like the paladins would turn against him ( whether that was just an underlining fear or had an actual backing), he could beat them to it. Which makes sense considering his upbringing. Now, instead of him pulling a 180 out of nowhere (which has him fall into that dangerous trope mentioned in the video), he has a genuine reason to be furious with the paladins. And instead of villainizing him, it makes the audience sympathetic and shows the long lasting affects of his childhood at the same time.

So in the end, he didn't become his parents. He wasn't evil to begin with. The true villain would be miscommunication, which is a real and tragic thing that pulls people apart, and turns them for the worse.
