If you had read the instructions, you would have seen that there is a slot on the side of the tower to store the battery door you took off of the camera.  Plus the battery door should be held at a 35 degree angle to remove it, so as not to damage the door.  Remember the old adage, 'When all else fails, read the instructions."

The only connection issue I've had is occasionally the aperture/shutter speed toggle dials don't react, but an off and on of the power switch seems to sort it every time so far.
