LM386 Op Amp Circuit, Why we did not use a TL082

The first cirucit diagram needs to add the speaker and 220uF capacitor off the #5 pin.

That TL082 op amp is awesome for having stero output but we were unable to get it to work after a few trys.

You did not apply the correct tool for the job. The TLO82 is a low power OpAmp. The LM386 is an audio amp designed to drive 4 to 16 ohm speakers. If you want to use that 12 volt battery why not use a higher power audio amp chip such as a
TDA2030A. This unit can output up to 18 watts of power when a properly sized heat sink is attached to the chip. 2 require for stereo. Better yet you can get small stereo audio amp boards with similar audio amp already made for around $10 on ebay.

You cannot drive a load of less than about 2k ohms with the TL082.  I've done some experimenting with the TL072, and the slew rate went to heck under 10K.  These must have some sort of output buffering/impedence converter to drive low z loads.  Their strong point is good gbp, sr, and high z inputs.

I dont know exactly but I think the tl082 isnt working because it cant deliver that much power. See what happens if you add a really high resistor to the output from the tl082, and see if you hear any quiet tone at all

So, for the LM082 chip, are you running the circuit off of a mono rail or is it a bipolar supply? If the supply is mono, you have to give the positive rail the full supply voltage, connect your negative rail to ground, and, depending on your configuration, bias your input signal with about half of your supply voltage.
