I live 10 minutes far from Venice and I just want to say that the most unique way to discover the city is to get lost...yes, you have to get lost to find wonderful spots without people, we always visit it in this way, is magical, I promise.

someone who lives here, this was interesting to watch. these things are all admired by the tourists. so when you say "the most popular place" thats not even close for the locals :D we never go to Florian, one coffee cost 25 euro lol while in the non touristic areas (where the people actually live) it cost only 1 euro. we never take a gondola ride, if we need it, we take the secret 1 euro gondola :DD the bookstore is amazing tho, i even made a video once about it and interviewed the owner, Luigi:))

I went to Venice (as well as Florence and Rome) for my Honeymoon back in November 2019 (before the pandemic hit). I was so lucky because Covid hit Italy two or three weeks AFTER my honeymoon! I took the water taxi with the leather seats to the nearest stop by my hotel and it wasn't private, but it was still a really cool experience! :) I also think Venice is more expensive because it's a city surrounded by water, so things are not as easily accessible and they have to import things into the city!

Going an an Asian is a slightly different experience tho. I went with my family (3ppl), it is s beautiful place to visit but have quite some people side eyeing us and sometimes the service we get isn't as good as what Westerners would get.
