Arturia Oberheim OB-Xa V Tutorial Ep.10 - Preset Deep-Dive No.3

In this episode I reverse-engineer one of the bundled presets in an attempt to find out not only how the synth hangs together, but also to see if I can glean a few tips and tricks that I can use in my own sound design.

The Oberheim OB-Xa was release in 1980, and at the time was one of the pre-eminent synths on the market. It was the successor to the OB-X, which appeared on Van Halen's 'Jump' as well as being the first time Queen used a synth on any of their albums (''The Game').

It's a fabulous sounding instrument, faithfully reproduced by Arturia in this software emulation.

In this series we'll deconstruct the OB-Xa and figure out how it works.

My name is Anthony Chisnall. I'm a musician & songwriter.

I try very hard to make my videos PRACTICAL and no-nonsense - if I don't use a feature, I'm not going to waste your time trying to sound like an expert on it! This is the stuff I use day-to-day, so I think that's also what you'd like to hear me talking about.

This is the second full deep dive playlist I’ve gone through ( started with the Moog Modular) and I cannot get enough. Your work here is very impressive. You took the time necessary to fully and completely explain what these synths do. The additional time spent on the reverse engineered presets is so helpful. I have owned/used the Arturia V collection for some time now, but going through your playlist really helped me unlock so much more of the potential these instruments possess.
