A Serious Cockpit for Serious Sim Racers... Playseat Trophy Logitech Edition Review

I was sent this product for review, no money changed hands #ad

When you’re looking to delve deeper into the hobby of sim racing, there will come a point where sitting in your office chair, with your g29 bolted to your desk just doesn’t cut it anymore. If you’re getting serious about sim racing, the Playseat Trophy Logitech Edition is the perfect demonstration of that. It’s a serious cockpit, with some serious strength & comfortability.

It’s relatively easy to build too, and I was able to piece it all together in about an hour. Despite some small QC issues, such as paint filling a pretty vital screw hole, which I was just able to poke through, And this thingy majig that holds the wheelbase plate just being loose in the box, and being a pretty big pain to put back on, I was surprised at how premium this thing felt.

It’s properly solid, and doesn’t feel like a toy in the slightest. But weight in at 17kg or 37 pounds, it’s refreshingly light too. Now it’s time for the sit test… and yes, it doesn’t look comfortable at all, and that’s because it wasn’t, but that’s by design…

You see, one of the greatest features of the Playseat Trophy Logitech G Edition is it’s adjustability, and there’s almost infinites levels of it. From the pedal plate, which not only has slots enabling you to scoot it around to any desired position or angle, but there’s also a plethora of bolt holes, allowing you to get the perfect fit. These are complete with four, easily adjustable bolts which you won’t need any tools to change.

You can also extent the cockpit entirely with two telescopic tubes, finished with I think laser printed markings, allowing you to make sure both sides are matching exactly. Furthermore, the angle of the wheelbase plate is also adaptable, and as well as the seat. Although, these little things here are a MASSIVE issue, but we’ll get onto that in a moment.

With such an emphasis on adjustability of the pedals, with these bright blue knobs that are begging to be twisted, it’s a mystery to me why I then need to use an allen key four times just to adjust the angle of the wheelbase or length of the entire thing. I would have loved to see these things be as easily adjustable, and for me personally, the pedals were the things I adjusted least. They’re just something you set and forget. Additionally, if I want to change the angle of the backrest, I need to use TWO allen keys twice. Also, if it’s not obvious there’s no height adjustability of the wheelbase, but I didn’t find that to be an issue.

Moving onto the seat itself now, and this is where I find fault with those god damn things. You might turn your nose up at a Velcro chair, but I think these things are the perfect solution. When you first sit in it, as you’ve seen, it’s uncomfortable. But do to the Velcro being almost infinitely adjustable, you can go down one by one, resetting every piece of Velcro until the seat is practically moulded to your body. After some fine tuning, you’ve got a chair that is extremely comfortable.
I’m 6’2, and my shoulders are pretty broad, yet I still manage to fit into the chair snugly, and it feels like an actual bucket seat. However, most of my height is in my legs, and even with the chair extended to LARGE, my feet might be a touch too close to the pedals, and if I raise my knee, it does clatter against the underside of the wheelbase plate which can get quite frustrating. The crown of my head also leans againt the uppermost metal bar on the seat, but this has been an issue in every single cockpit I’ve used to date. Despite this, one plus is that the Playseat Trophy Logitech G Edition does wrap it in foam which makes it slightly more comfortable.

However, with the ActiFit fabric, that lets the air flow through the material, as a guy that runs hot, playing in a hot room, in a hot VR headset, the chair is one of the cooler I’ve played in. It smells like the interior of a holiday rental car too I found really strange, but quite nice.
But now for that massive issue… When getting in and out of the chair, youre going to want to put your hands on the highest point for stability. But it just so happens that the highest point is those seat adjustment struts. Now, putting all of your weight on those WILL cause them to bend, like one of mine did. So, just bare that in mind if youre going to purchase this chair. Anyway

My headcannon of TSRB wearing the Stig's attire and helmet has been shattered.

Now I know he looks like you and me, ordinary, yet still somewhat legendary... 😢

Really good review and well described. Definitely interested in getting this rig for DD. But… Pyjamas and ducking CROCS?
APART from that…great review pal. 😊

You assembled the seat back incorrectly, you have an empty hole at the bottom of the frame at 3:51, the tags that you bent should be attached there

Been looking for a seat to mount a wheel and pedals and don't want to break the bank so this is at the top of what my budget would be. It seems the better set up after say the playseat Evolution as that has more flex and the wheel mount has the bar in the centre which gets in the way of your legs. Thing is that bugs me with this set up on the trophy is as you say, where is the easy adjustment, like the evolution has. It's daft how if someone wants a go after you in the seat you have to break out the tools and message around. Not sure which is better as sort of need best of both of them

if you have logitech wheel, you turn the wheelbase plate around and ducttape a monitor to the same plate. doesnt look pretty but its been working for at least 8 months now :D

@That Sim Racing Block
how did you mount fanatec elite pedals ? Are the v1 version? Because it is impossible to access front screws which are only accessible from the side, but the panel blocks the access.

Do you think VRS pedals are overkill for this? I dont plan to use high kg of force, if they still are worth it, great. if not then i can get something like the CSL V2's

For the pedals to get farther from you, and help with the knees touching the wheelbase, you can use the position A1. The way i see it:
A vs B - height
1 to 5 - angle/tilt
release screws and move pedal plate - distance from you (slight angle/tilt change)

The wheelbase height….. I assume you cannot adjust its height (up and down) ?

I love the design, the size, and how its light enough to move around and stand on its rear out of the way while still being very rigid but $600 USD is WAY overpriced for what you get. That is typical Playseat pricing though. It's too bad because this would suit my needs perfectly.

2:54 Whoever told you that your shoulders are pretty broad is not a real friend

What is the technique called in which you break with your right foot and then twist the ankle to hit the throttle with the same foot (while it’s still positioned on the break pedal)?

How wide is the pedal plate? I would like to use it not only for racing but also for the flight simulator, I need it to be at least 53 cm

Honest review mate, Nice 👍
Yes the product looks great and with some tinkering, it probably feels great - ish! But the Price!!! 500, isn't so great. In fact, it's quite shocking and doesn't come close to being a winner in this price market.
Cheers man 👍🏁

Did you actually just act like you are playing a game on your TV for this video? The wheelbase isn't even plugged in and the imputs don't match the gameplay. But still, thanks for the effort of making this video. As always, a good one.
