What most people forget is that GWM actually know the customer profile of the people who are actually buying the cars and not people who just have opinions. These cars are going to sell and do well in the segment, they wont be the top seller in the segment but they will take alot of customers who usually buy the top range bakkie and suv of the competitor. For example, Ranger Wildtrack or Platinum customers who aren't brand loyalists will consider the P500 and it offers more value for money than those

@Mr HowMuch, can you please consider reviewing these cars after a year or 2 of ownership so we can know if it can be better for us second-hand lovers. If possible, start with these Chinese brands like Haval

The tank 500 and P500 needs a 3.0L turbo diesel ⛽ engine

I would buy these cars for piece of mind safety wise and i love having lots of features. Obviously it will mean more things to go wrong. If you buy a Ranger, Hilux, Prado you will always be looking over your shoulder plus those are high risk cars. I will go for the alternative and currently owning a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, it hasnt given me any headaches or issues for the past 18 months i have owned it having driven it for 33 000km, so with these vehicles, if they are still good quality wise, I would definitely still buy it instead of the usual cars

I saw this vehicle at Clearwater mall. The GWM Tank to be specific. It is BEAUTIFUL. Woodgrain interior, analogue clock, beautiful multifunctional steering wheel, sexy gear lever. It looks huge but let me tell you... It IS HUGE. Also, not shown, the sidestep is automatic and retracts when the doors close.

GWM and Chery did extensive research and realized there's a gap between luxury SUV and workhorse bakkies. Chery is about to release their own luxury bakkies

Maaan! I love this vehicle. We are just not primed to be fair to open competition, yet! The Chinese just keep releasing real bombs. I am not fazed by the power output, because it means with the right tune (Race chip) then you are in the territories of BMW X5 M50d or 50i! 😍

Realistic pricing for the Tank should have been R800k. Gadget tech isn’t enough to compete with the Everest & Prado.

At those price ranges I would rather fork out an addition R300k and get a well spec'd Landrover Defender.

The bakkies are gonna outsell the SUVs for sure. The Tank SUV needs a powerful diesel powerplant because those hybrids are not as efficient as advertised. Well, that's my take

Another great review once again from Mr. How Much. Keep up the excellent work!

The pricing seems a bit on the aggressive side.

GWM should recognize that a significant factor driving people to purchase their products is the affordability. South Africans still have strong brand loyalties and would often prefer to buy an inferior vehicle from a well-known brand.

At a million rands, the target market is small, but competition is fierce from established brands.

I’m not sure how large the P500 is, but this could be an opportunity for Toyota, Ford, and Nissan to introduce their larger American bakkies like the Tundra, F-150, F-250, and Titan to the South African market. Many would be willing to pay R1 million or more for these models.
