If the pool is 10 blocks tall place a layer of dirt at the second layer place water on it break the dirt

Am i the only one who places blocks on the top layer, add the water on top then break the blocks to fill it up?

Guys, just put water along the edges on each layer... it'll turn into source blocks on its own

Or the simpler solution is to put water sources on the edges and then put kelp on the non source water blocks which will then cause it to become a source block spreading the water. This is way more efficient than farming ice as kelp spawns basically everywhere and you can just bonemeal it from the bottom if you're trying to fill a huge space.

Diagonal will work, also starting from one corner along the side and from the second corner in "L" shape another side... When making this multi layers, remove the floor so you have the dirt blocks under that, fill the bottom layer with water and plant kelp on every block in the water, fill second layer from top with any blocks (dirt) and fill the top layer with water, remove the blocks on second from top layer, wait till all the kelp has grow to the top layer, remove the kelp and replace the bottom layer with what you originaly wanted it to be.

With the pale garden update, you can use resin blocks. Place them one block below where you want the water level to be and then place the water. Breaking the resin will then fill the pool or river/pond with water sources.

a few people in the comments are saying to just do the top layer using a layer of filler blocks, but that leaves a lot of flowing non-source blocks. right after you fill the top layer and remove the filler you can just take seaweed and place enough to fill all the non-source water blocks which turns them into source blocks, then just break the seaweed.

or just place water on the sides of the pool, that also creates water sources

Bro, just put water sources one each layer on each side of the pool and it fills up without any extra work

Alternatively, fill the bottom of the pool then place water along the walls of the pool to fill the rest

I remember another good way to fill up a 1 block deep space with water. Place water all along 2 connecting sides of the pool and it will fill itself

Or, fill from top (if its deep just add a layer of dirt to destroy after placing water), then go to the bottom and use kelp to turn all the water into its own source block
