With the AGC turned off it is interesting to see what happens when the RF Gain is advanced. Some rigs are just loud, some sound mushy, many old tube rigs just went blank and some modern and expensive rigs go bonkers with distortion products!

When the AGC is turned off, receiving gain will be the highest. It's just for the case to listen a weak signal. No one expect you to do it for strong signal reception.

Looks like you're on filter 1, I would narrow it for CW. The CW filter presets are narrower than other modes, but I find sometimes I need to narrow the RX bandwidth on SSB if there is a lot of noise near the intended frequency. I would like to see the results upon choosing a narrower filter setting

Turn off the AGC and then complain that very strong signals are to strong for the NF? Drive your mercedes benz with open windows at -40c and complain its to cold?

Why turn them agc off? This isn't a Collins or any boat anchor that used this method.

Thank you Steve - now err, I absolutely am sitting on the fence whether to change my 7300 for 7610, maybe I'll hold on to see what happens with other rigs ;-)

Why don't you turn off the AGC first and then adjust the RF gain at the point where the distortion is gone?

The 7610 while a nice rig isn’t worth $2200 more then the 7300

I see you have no idea how different those rigs are. Both rigs act as they should.

This make no sense whatsoever, what are you trying to prove?

My God! My DRAKE R4C is better and only a few knobs.

Just buy a IC-775DSP and it will put these two radios to shame. End of story. 😉
