When the sarcoplasmic reticulum is damaged, do to stress. One position too long. Repetitive movement, emotional stress, a sudden movement, a blow from an accident. The sarcoplasmic reticulum can rupture(break). When that happens the calcium leaks out, even though there is no electrical signal from the brain for the cell to contract, the muscle cell contracts. So what you have is a contracted muscle fiber within a relaxed muscle. Forming your myofascial trigger point.
