The first phase of polls to elect members of the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly is taking place on Wednesday, September 18. Twenty-four constituencies in seven districts are voting today in the first Assembly election in 10 years. In the first assembly election since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, over 23 lakh voters will choose from 219 candidates. Unlike previous elections, which were marred by violence and boycott calls, the region is expected to see a peaceful round of polling. Prominent players in this democratic process include the National Conference, PDP, Congress, and BJP, among others. Stay tuned to India Today as we bring you the latest updates from the Jammu and Kashmir constituencies voting today.

Whatever may be election outcome. BJP has done exceptionally well in JK which PDP, NC and CONGRESS not able to do in their long term rule. I hope people will recognise the changes and elect proper leader.
