Bamboo Bikes at the Ashmolean Museum

Friday 14th March 2014 Oxford Brookes University launched their 150th anniversary year, at the Ashmolean Museum’s Live Friday Event, the museum is next door to where the university started in 1865. This night showcased various aspects of the university and included the Bamboo bikes, which were designed and developed by staff and students within the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.

The ‘ride’ was completed on rollers and even in a spacious and airy museum it was a tough challenge for the riders, Shpend Gerguri, Ian Spacksman, James Broughton and Daniel Bell.

The team chose to ride 150 miles to show not only how the university has evolved since those early days in the Taylorian Institute, but also the future of research-lead teaching.
