LaCie says actual data rates may vary depending on the operating environment and other factors such as the chosen interface and disk capacity. I have indeed seen faster speeds from these SSDs in other presentations.

If you connect the orange LaCie Rugged NVMe SSD with a Thunderbolt cable and connect it to a Thunderbolt 3 port, you will get even higher read / write results. Incidentally, the black Pro version contains exactly the same Seagate FireCuda 510 NVMe SSD as the orange version.

Got two, both CRAP...first they were not recognized by my various computers (I have 5), then I could not access my data (a HUGE archive of videos I was hoping to move to a new system). Sent for repair, took months, now I am here because I am trying to use the "Seagate Certified Repaired" one and it will not unmount from my computer. BS, NEVER AGAIN!

Hello. Thanks for the very informative review. I just have one question I was wondering if you wouldn't mind answering for me I'm stuck before buying this? I plan on hooking one of the drives... well one of the slightly older models (SSD Rugged 500gb) up to my mac with the old thunderbolt 2 cable and installing OSX on it to achieve faster speeds than my internal hard drive. My question is, when I do this, could I utilize the USB 3.0 port on the Lacie device to connect an extra 2TB hard drive? That would mean I have 2 external devices and one of them would be faster speed (USB-3.0)... Someone mentioned that they are not sure this would work as it's maybe not a "thru port"? If you could somehow clarify this I would be very grateful
