Al Jazeera office in Israel raided and channel taken off air in country | BBC News

Israel’s government has moved to shut down the operations of the Al Jazeera television network in the country, branding it a mouthpiece for Hamas.

Hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the cabinet agreed to the closure, police raided the broadcaster’s office in Jerusalem on Sunday.

The broadcaster, which is headquartered in Qatar, called claims it was a threat to Israeli security a "dangerous and ridiculous lie".

Now imagine that was Russia raiding BBC office in Moscow and taking the channel off air.

Al Jazeera was just telling Netanyahu what he didn’t want to hear, and like a child he puts his fingers in his ears by censoring the channel. If he _really_ thought they were talking crap, he’d have no problem. The fact he shuts them down betrays that he feels they are talking some truth. As Orwell said: ‘If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.’
