I got Synth Riders and returned it because the workout wasn't that great. Then I saw this video and got Audio Trip. It's a really good workout! Thanks for the informative reviews.

Thanks for this list! I just started out in VR with synth riders and loving that, but when I reach the point that I feel I should want more, I'll def try audio trip. 🙏

Supernatural is my no. 1. I also enjoy synthriders and moonrider. Synthriders become fun once I found music I liked and how to sideload other songs. They also have some amazing maps called 'experiences'.

Tks for the vIdeo man, recently I've bought quest 2. I have beat saber and synth riders and I was just looking for another rhythm games on vr. Pistol whip and audio trip will be my next go to for sure.

Good video, I know that you didn’t talk about it since your not talking about Sidequest games, but what do you think of VRworkout? It’s probably best summarized as a free Supernatural.

I agree with all of the rankings. Spot on.

Beat Saber and Pistol Whip are definitely the best out there with synth riders being a close second.

I have recently tried Ragnarock, and I must say it contends with Beat Saber and Synth Riders toe to toe. You must check it out!

Love this. Please do more, one for applabs. I think my fav of all you mentions is Supernatural... reason being, besides the workout, is that it puts me in a better mood, the music is good, the coaches -i feel like they're there with you, and the environments.

Thanks for your list, and even though it's currently an App Lab game, Smash Drums without a doubt should be on the Oculus store 100%. I just don't understand how it isn't. In my opinion, it's the ultimate rhythm based game which gives you a fantastic workout, especially if you're standing and drumming using the 360 mode. Up the difficulty to hard or extreme if you dare, and you'll be sweating buckets. Great Indie song rock list and deserves to be right near the top, if not the top. Easy 10/10 for me. :)

I agree, an awesome review. While grading of individual games will be highly subjective, your comments are pretty well spot on. A little rough on Dance Central perhaps but I only played the demo version, so what do I know? I did learn to like OhShape but only after they came out with some dlc content. I really disliked that plane pastel look of the original game. The dlc have a background that I think looks more like a Synth Riders look. But I agree that it is not as much a fitness workout as the others. And while I would have given Supernatural an A-, they could zoom to the top of your list if they would take some of the suggestions from their users and integrate them into their app. Excellent review!

Hi There, enjoy your videos. I have a question about audio trip. I’m 68! And in good shape … do you think audio trip is appropriate for older vr exercisers ??

I love Audio Trip way better than Synth Riders. I don’t get the hype on that one? I don’t even like the music that much. Audio Trip is sooo fun!

I think Synthriders is the most fun of that genre... you do need to crank the difficulty for a better workout though. The only thing holding it back is no campaign mode.

Audio Trip is great, but the difficulty on normal campaign is a little unforgiving, especially when your hands "shrink" 🤬. GREAT workout though but could be more balanced since easy is way too easy.

I have played all of those except FitXR.

I'd actually agree with about 90% of your rankings. I've also never been able to get Dance Central to click. It really needs a 'studio' where you can just learn the moves before throwing you out onto the floor, for one thing. And I also am not sure exactly what Oh Shape is trying to achieve.

Pistol Whip is one that I just haven't been able to fall in love with. I keep coming back to it, and it is a game that I should like, but I just can't get it right. The main problem for me is that it is a rhythm game the way the others are not - unlike, say, Beat Saber, you're the one responsible for the rhythm, but the music doesn't really support that. It has a beat that I find is hard to follow, with long quiet segments with no beat at all. I end up trying to play the game in time to the flashing lights, and my timing just stinks that way.

But wow, the trifecta of my favorite workout games: Supernatural, Synth Riders, and Audio Trip. All three are great, and all three are fun. But looking at them primarily as games... Supernatural nails the workout, and is built around it, but the game is lackluster. You're never quite sure how you're doing, as there is no feedback until the end. I get why - they want you to focus on the movement, not the score, and that's fine, but it does weaken the gameplay. Synth Riders is so much fun. It's got great motion, and it gives you more freedom in how you interpret the targets and motions required - meaning that you can dance with it in a way that feels good to you. But it doesn't really push you (there are a few songs that do - the custom Captain Jack song, for instance), but generally it's up to you to work out while you play. Audio Trip, though, manages to be the best of all of them.

I'd put it this way: Supernatural nails the workout, but gives a mediocre game. Synth Riders nails the game, but gives a mediocre workout. Audio Trip is the one of the bunch that manages to do great at both.

I've also spent some time with some non-Oculus PCVR titles that didn't meet your criteria. PowerBeatsVR had some good ideas, but it was not fun to play, and never gave much of a flow. It always felt awkward and uncomfortable, despite giving a good workout. Ragnarock has some good music and great ideas, but it really needs some more tweaking to be fun to play. It doesn't give much of a workout at all, though. Your pretty much have to stand still and make short, fast arm motions to play. It's fun, but it'll never be a workout game.

Until you Fall is very exhausting if you play outside when the sun is down. Not the same category.

I suspect we can't turn off the coaches and make playlists by songs with Supernatural because of licensing wrangling but it is a PITA. The 'game' of hitting the balloons itself doesn't keep me motivated and being in the zone, the music does. Not being able to dial that in does suck.
