I don't think I support this. Homeownership has been sold to North Americans as the way to build wealth but it's not always a better financial decision than renting and investing in the market. And it emcourages the financialization of housing as opposed to viewing it as a need. Homeowners have an interest in keeping housing supply low, while renters want more supply to create competition. Subsidizing homeownership is also regressive, it only helps those who are close to affording a home already. We need to build more social housing and loosen zoning and environmental regulations to allow more market rate developments
