Amateur Radio Satellite SO-50 with Baofeng UV-5R- April 2014

Tuning into low earth orbit satellite SO-50 on 436.795 FM using a sub $40 dollar radio and a Nagoya NA-775 (under 10 dollar) antenna. Today it was a nice pass of the SO-50 amateur radio satellite so I thought I should run outside and tune in. Didn't turn out as good as some passes due to some interference- but overall it went fairly well. I simply love tuning into satellite with relatively cheap HT radios. Just good fun!

That little Baofeng surely does pick up the Saudisat well. I am really excited because on May 3rd I am taking my HAM exam. Looking forward to working some birds! Cool video as always.

Hi Eric, nice to see you having success with recieving the SO-50 bird, it give me a lot of greif trying to recieve it went it over head here, I been trying to get some recording of it with Audacity in VOX mode as I not always around to record it.

Maybe I need to make a better antenna for my base rig rather than using a J-Pole antenna.

2:05 That was a special station! W1AW is a station where licenced operators are invited to operate under the callsign, that have some nice rigs! (I was also wondering if you have been licenced yet?)
