I have a 2016 Ram Rebel 1500 & My truck has the Bilstien Air Suspension system and I use an 10k weight distribution / Anti-sway hitch. I tow a 27 foot Forest River Rockwood Ultra-lite. Pulling around 8500 pounds. I just moved from CA to OK. No problems at all. Addtionally this is my third trip to Oklahoma from California. Tires make a difference too, I have Hartland 10 ply E rated tires. The truck meets and exceeds my expectations, no squat with Bilstein Air suspension. On open freeway cross country I’ve done 75 mph safely and regularly

Great review. I agree with that being a lot of weight for a half ton. I’ve had my Rebel for over a year. When I got it I never expected to end up with a travel trailer as big as we did. At over 8k my truck pulls it but I’m definitely looking for a HD for the comfort level. That said, I love my truck for the other 340 days a year when I’m not towing. 👍🏻

Enjoy your videos. I like how you test used and new trucks

You can get some Shackles to put it on the chain hanger to hook up your chains

That thing sounds incredible, if nothing else. Came upon your channel a little too late - though I'm happy with my choice I just picked up an f150 with the max tow package & FX4 to tow a 7, 000 GVWR car trailer - but really happy to have found it. Best of luck continuing to grow.

The Rebel has a softer off-Road suspension. So it makes sense that it floats and bounces more when towing. I would guess a Laramie or other trim would be a little more stable when towing.

Nice review. 100% agree that 9000 pounds is a lot of weight. Especially with an enclosed trailer. That makes all the difference with the sway. I’d say all the half tons would be ok with 9000 pounds on an open trailer though. Or at least not as uncomfortable of an experience.

I agree about the tow mirrors looking a little funny on 1/2 tons but I have to disagree about not needing them lol. When I had my 2016 1500 Silverado I couldn’t see squat with the regular mirrors lol.

Sway bars are a must on any half ton truck with large car/travel trailers

My 2018 Rebel with max towing tows 10, 200(3.92 axle, 4 corner air suspension, tow mode, integrated brake control) currently pulling 33 ft travel trailer at 8500 max loaded, and it does the job with weight distribution hitch and anti sway. I feel confident anywhere in California but I’d be hesitant going cross country. There are some grades in Cali(Ventura, grapevine, foothills). I’m in the market for a superduty 2500 for the stability and greater payload. When I hit those grades in my 1500 there’s a little pucker factor going up but that gearing going downhill is awesome. That’s why I feel i need a gas 2500, for total control and peace of mind.

Why not raise your hitch 1 or 2 notches so that it pulls level?

Like the info and reviews you give on these trucks 👍 I've noticed on all your chain hook ups, you hook them from the side hole? Why don't you hook them from the underneath? There's a hole underneath and makes it a lot easier to hook up and unhook?

I love my tow mirrors on my 2013 Ram 1500...they are power, and work with the memory function. Only the smaller convex mirrors aren’t power. They look to be the same design on the current model. Regardless if it’s 1/2 ton or 3/4, they are strange looking, but I would not get a new Ram without them to see around any 8-8.5’ wide trailer. Great review again btw - I’m impressed this rebel had such a high payload.

My 2019 rebel has the towing mirrors with the electric button to adjust. Also the mirrors fold out for an extended view

The squat didn't look too bad when you first hooked it up, but was very noticeable once you had it on that level surface at the end of the video. Another great video!

Just traded down from my 3500 Ram dually cummins ( dealers are writing checks and i took advantage) and a 42 ft 5fer to a 21 1500 Big Horn 5.7 3.92 axle and Cougar 22rbs off grid equipped solar and inverter. Total weight will be 6200 lbs with full payload. Hopefully oil doesn't go to $100 a barrel but I made a decision based on it. You made my mind up as far as a equalizer hitch. If your wanting to down size you'll surprised what rv and truck dealers are willing to pay for lightly used low mileage rv's and trucks due to low or no inventory! Thanks for posting.

I have a 2019 1500 Ram Laramie 5.7 four-door four-wheel drive Max Tow my numbers only axle were just like the numbers on the truck you tested my payload is different though my payload is at 1860 tow rating is 11320 my parking sensor still work with a trailer connected you have to be careful doing so because it will stop the truck in reverse when you go to maneuver the trailer I mean dead stop good video buddy I will be doing some videos on towing with my 1500 Max Tow

Ima Chevy dude I have a trail boss and with a 8, 000lb trailer and no distribution hitch it was crazy to drive like that. (Coming from me that I drive semi’s) but to be fair between all the trucks with that much weight you have to test with a weight distribution hitch, stabilizing bar or sway bar can’t remember the name, 10ply tires with the tire pressures at 50psi or whatever is required to give a fair opinion. Reason is because with that much weight with any half ton truck it’s a huge case of the tail wagging the dog instead of the dog wagging the tail. But I understand it not easy to obtain all the tools all the time to make the perfect video. But hope you can soon.
