Beats Studio Pro Review: Lots to Love, a Little to Hate

Beats' new fourth-gen Studio headphones look similar to their predecessor on the outside but have some big changes on the inside that make them significantly better headphones -- and excellent headphones overall for both Apple and Android users. But they leave off a couple of features that could have made them even better. Watch CNET editor David Carnoy's full review.

Really they did improve the durability. Back when working for apple, always had customers coming back with headband and hinge durability issues

Good on CNET for still keeping a professional approach to tech reviews. Concise.

David's reviews are still the only remaining reason I visit any of CNET's content. At least Apple has Beats moving in the right direction.

I love that they added direct wired lossless audio capability.

My biggest concern with the last version was the cushions keep falling apart. And so, repairing them was expensive. I liked that with the AirPod Max, I can remove the cushions

I am listening to this video with BEATS Studio Pro headphones. All I can say - I have not yet found a headphone that can beat this headphone with EDM music specifically. Sennheiser, Sony, Bose conme close but no way do those others sound better with than Beats Pro. I have listened to manay songs from the 80's, 90's Italo, Dance etc. I do not care if they are not comfortable or not lasting - it is all about the sound quality to me.

let address the elephant in the room. when beats came out it target audience was the urban crowd, and the other 20% was the non-urban crowd who loved hardcore dance music. Apple knew Beats was going to be a tough competitor in the future so Apple did what Apple does got rid of the threat. I don't understand why these reviewers are bad mouthing Beats, when they know Apple is never going to bring out or design something new or spectacular for the Beat band. Apple is a company that doesn't like sharing the spot light.

I just got a pair of these today! The dark brown one. The finish is so smooth!! I’m 2 hrs into using these, and he is not kidding about the noise cancelation, and the compression once you put them on. By the way the guy at 6:34 was supper lost 😂

Wonderful review. I appreciate the specific comparisons with other products. These sound like the would be fine for me, though they are a bit out of my price range.

2:24 They're hard to get out of the case because you put them in backwards, try the other way and you'll have zero problems.

Just got them for sale. Crazy good headphones. Sound quality is easily better than my Sony WH-XM3, and believe it or not, a lot more balanced. I wasn't expecting that but guess they are made for studio use. Another thing I noticed is they sound as good as a $300 pair of wired headphones when used in wired mode or with USB-C. I currently have the Meze 109 pro as my main headphones and beats didn't feel like it didn't belong in the same league when comparing using the same equipment. If anything, it fared quite well and I'd actually be happy with this as my daily listener. It's honestly up there with HD650 in terms of detail, with a lot better bass and a bit recessed treble (due to the closed nature of the headphones). I honestly think it's one of the better closed back headphones for the price even when compared solely to wired headphones. Obviously, you lose a lot of fidelity in bluetooth mode. It sounds closer to airpods pro in wireless mode, with a bit more punch and dynamics at higher volume.

Thanks for this video. I would also like to see a more in-depth comparison between this new Studio Pro and the Apple AirPods Max.

Very good review. I just got a pair today in deep brown colour. I am disappointed because they are very uncomfortable on my ears. No matter how I adjust them they squeeze my ears and after maybe half an hour I get a lot of pain. I am not keeping them. It would be nice if I could get to try headphones on for comfort instead of wasting money buying them in the vague hope that they will fit me. The only set I have that fits well is the Soundcore Q45.

Great review. I have the Beats Solo 3 for a number of years still works great. The padding show a very little wear but I was looking for something a little “bigger” I might get the upgrade.
