Domestic heating is necessary in chilly climates, especially during harsh winters. Conventional fuels are the only alternative for household heating, and solar has restrictions such not providing thermal energy at night. PCM is a fantastic choice for nighttime household heating without traditional fuel. Using transient numerical modeling, the present work investigates the techno-economic portion of TES (Thermal energy storage) designed for a two-person shelter in chilly India.
In this work, we first create a numerical model of a 10 m3 PCM chamber filled with organic paraffin wax balls. Multi-phase PCM chamber modeling using Ansys Fluent. Experiments validate this CFD model. After designing a PCM chamber, techno-economic optimization is undertaken for a two-person shelter in India. Optimizing techno-economics uses transient boundary conditions.
This work helps design a PCM chamber for overnight residential heating without conventional fuels. This research compares two PCM ball shapes (Cylindrical or Spherical).
