✈️ABOUT CONVAIR B-36✈️

The Convair B-36 Peacemaker was a strategic bomber developed by the Convair Division of General Dynamics during the early Cold War era. It was the largest aircraft ever built by the United States at the time, with a wingspan of 230 feet and a maximum weight of 410,000 pounds. The B-36 was in service from 1949 to 1959, and was used primarily as a nuclear deterrent.

The B-36 had six Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major radial engines, each with a power output of 3,800 horsepower. It also had four General Electric J47 turbojet engines, which were used for takeoff and high-altitude flight. The combination of these engines gave the B-36 a maximum speed of 435 miles per hour and a range of over 10,000 miles.

The B-36's armament consisted of six remote-controlled turrets, each with two 20mm cannons, and two 37mm cannons. It could also carry up to 72,000 pounds of bombs internally, as well as two nuclear bombs. The B-36's size and range made it ideal for long-range missions, and it was often used for reconnaissance and intelligence gathering.

Despite its impressive capabilities, the B-36 had several drawbacks. Its huge size made it difficult to maintain, and it required extensive infrastructure and support facilities. It was also vulnerable to enemy fighters due to its slow speed and lack of maneuverability. In addition, advances in air-to-air missiles and radar technology made the B-36 increasingly vulnerable to attack.

In the end, the B-36 was retired from service in 1959, after only a decade of use. Despite its relatively short service life, the B-36 left a lasting impact on military aviation, and its legacy can be seen in many modern military aircraft.

Thank you for this. The B-36 is the most beautiful and incredible thing ever built.

I thought I was the only one ❤ . Best sound to sleep to ever. I am literally there napping during a long mission over some distant ice covered expanse, high above the world, cozied up in a sleeping blanket waiting for my shift to start……

If you would like to see a B36 up close, go to Castle Air Museum in Atwater, CA. In 1992, it was disassembled and brought to Castle via train. By the time I left the Air Force in 1993, the process to reassemble the aircraft had begun.

Fun fact: It was originally on display at Chanute AFB until it’s closing. I went to Chanute for firefighter school. I marched past this same aircraft many times going to and from various details before I started school.

Oh yes. I used to travel and fly in the small prop planes. I was asleep on the plane in minutes. Thank you!!!!

Sounds like recording was from inside the aircraft. A B-36 passing over has a stronger "prop" sound. I've heard it. A C-133 has a similar sound which I think is because of the large, three bladed propellers. Both sounds are unique and unforgettable. The Russian Tu-95 Bear and An-22 make a somewhat similar sound. Thanks for this recording.

the B-36 has a great sound, I wish there were more made and still around. Although the B-52 is a much better bomber, in my opinion, the B-36 looks 'tougher'.

Pretty ironic that is called a Peacemaker even though it disintegrates entire cities
