The Penguins went into this game hoping to extend their 6-game winning streak. Ryan Lomberg strikes first for the Panthers mid-way through the 1st period. The Penguins trailed by one after the first 20 minutes of play. In the 2nd period Kris Letang tied up the score with a short-handed goal. This was the Penguins’ third shorthanded goal of the season, and Letang's fifth of his career. Only Mark Giordano (13) has more shorthanded goals among active defensemen than Letang's five. With 7:18 left in the middle frame, The Penguins took a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal from Jake Guentzel. In the 3rd period, Evgeni Malkin Furthered the Penguins lead with a power-play goal that unfortunately resulted in an injury as the puck defected off of Geno’s lower body and into the net. Soon after, the Panthers cut the deficit to 3-2 on a goal from Sam Reinhart. With 1:18 left on the clock, Jake Guentzel got his second goal of the night with an empty net goal. Pittsburgh extended the NHL's longest active winning streak to seven games tonight.
