Ah yes, our old friend Udaloy. Along with Choppy the chopper who will never leave you alone. Never ever leave you alone. Not matter how deep you go. Nope. NEVER. He will just ping you and ping you and PING YOU until you lose your mind.

Always loved the look of the Udaloy class, very elegant hull lines and a powerfull armament. This is going to be a very informative evening...

"A Frigate?"
"No, Fregat!"

I have photos of the Udaloy in the Med in 1984. She was an escort for the ASW Helo carrier Moskva. When compared to our Knox class frigate, you could tell this was a warship.

If I remember right the Udaloy, was in the gulf, during the first Gulf War basically keeping an eye on Western ships and how they performed

I've always liked the ASW destroyers, the Spruances and Udaloys. Supplementing the larger AAW destroyers and cruisers and being able to conduct Strike Warfare.

I was stationed at Ft. Shatter in Hawaii when the Panteleyev was in for RimPac. They were allowing limited tours of the deck area and the helo. A buddy and I went over and got to go on board and do a walk around. It was a surreal experience.

Those ships are very sleek and dangerous looking. I was on a couple of aircraft carriers during my naval service. We had some interesting exchanges with the Soviet Navy in the Med. Great videos and great narration. Thanks, Chief!

A well put together brief. I'm prior Army myself and find your briefs very informative in learning about what my brothers and sisters in the Navy experience. Thank you!

The 3S14 UKSK VLS installed on the Marshal Shaposhnikov does not only shoot anti-ship and land attack cruise missiles, but also anti-submarine rocket assisted torpedoes. The latter weapon is the 91R1 or 91RT2 "Otvet" (Response in English). The UKSK VLS can be loaded with whatever combination of weapons.

Whenever I hear Sub Brief describing Horse Jaw, my mental image is of the Udaloy pumping Russian hardbass out of the bow.

Did a tour flying the EP-3E as a 1310. Flying a China mission in 2005 we were re-tasked to rig some ships, and I was relatively new. My first ship rigging was one of these and some others you mentioned here in a Russian flotilla. It was quite a thrill.

Love the ship and sub briefs! One thing that didn't make a lot of sense to me before and does now is the time spent in dry dock by a lot of Russian naval vessels. Essentially, it is the result of rampant corruption. The capability of Russia and, in the past the U.S.S.R., to design effective weapons systems and platforms is there but that capability is severely hampered by their inability to maintain control of materiel or funds once either has left the manufacturer or Moscow, respectively. That is playing out now as soldiers go to depots to pick up materiel and find that it isn't where it supposed to be because it was sold or has been replaced with fakes or the funds were diverted and the materiel never actually purchased.

I must tell you, I enjoy your videos and the way in which you relay factual information.
Compliments all round.

udaloys are such fine looking ships i don't understand marhsal shaposhnikov's refit it gives it newer anti ship missles but it doesn't replace the old sam vls cells it just kinda feels like a half refit if they were to replace the ak 630 with Kortik and the 64 older vls with newer vls that can quad pack Sam's
the refit is an improvement for sure but it just feels like a half refit to me
