Lyrics:
He said
Take a seat over there on the chair by the couch Tell me what you’ve been thinking about
There’s nothing you can say That’s outa bounds
You can trust me swear I’m here for you now I’ve heard it all before
He took out his pen But as he
wrote down each Each thing that I said

Oh Well
The mood just changed He started acting strange
And this was our next exchange He said
I’ll tell you what I’m sorry but I don’t think I can be Of any help
Think I need help now’s what he said to me might even need it more than me now
Oh the irony I’m so messed up I sent my therapist to therapy

I’ll tell you what I’m sorry but I thought I’d never see A case as bad as yours
Don’t think I have a remedy Think he needs help now Oh the irony
I’m so messed up I sent my therapist to therapy

As I
got up from the chair where I sat by the couch He said to me
could you sit back down
And I could see as I turned around
Really needed someone that he could talk To now
Said
Thought that I’d seen it all Turns out I was wrong

Wish I could help you out You’ll have to be strong

Oh Well
The mood just changed He started acting strange
this was our next exchange He said

I’ll tell you what I’m sorry but I don’t think I can be Of any help
Think I need help now’s what he said to me Might even need it more than me now
Oh the irony I’m so messed up I sent my therapist to therapy

I’ll tell you what I’m sorry but I thought I’d never see A case as bad as yours
Don’t think I have a remedy Think he needs help now Oh the irony
I’m so messed up I sent my therapist to therapy

I went out yesterday to get food from the store And ran into the man from before
Right by the exit door
He stopped me to talk so Said that he went to go And look for some help A funny thing happened And I said do to

Oh and the story is
My doctor found a doctor and his doctor told him

I’ll tell you what I’m sorry but I don’t think I can be Of any help
Think I need help now’s what he said to me Might even need it more than me now
Oh the irony I’m so messed up I sent my therapist to therapy I’ll tell you what I’m sorry but I thought I’d never see

A case as bad as yours Don’t think I have a remedy Think he needs help now Oh the irony
I’m so messed up I sent my therapist to therapy

As a therapist myself this made me laugh so much because it is so relatable to my life rn in the sense that some cases are just that bad... And I do take it to my personal therapy sessions 😂🙏🏾

It’s truly admirable how this song went from being completely rejected to having one of the coolest music videos I’ve seen in a long time!
Really inspiring 🌻

As a person whose pursuing a possible career in psychotherapy, I can say that (from what my psychotherapist professors mention) no person should ever feel like they’re guilty about making their therapist feel a certain way. It is not your fault for all the things that happened, and you don’t need to worry about what the therapist is doing, they know which resources to use and not let that get into the relationship you can build in sessions.

So please, if you feel like this, know that a therapist never judges you of how fucked up your life it, they might be sad about the course of events, but what matters is that you become functional and thrive with the possibilities you have.

Much love x

Your music got me through a lot of bullying in school and loneliness in college, I am truly grateful to have had your music from water fountain to now. I’m really happy you’re still making music.

me and my grandpa used to listen to all your songs together- i sang and he tried to mumble the words. he was very sick at the time and sadly passed last night in his sleep. no pain, silently, just how he would want to. his favorite song was Steve, since his best friend was named Steve who had also passed. he would have loved this song. i saw it a couple minutes after it was posted but didnt think of sending a small memorial for him here. i sang the song out loud and i knew he could hear me and loved it.

The lesson we could learn through this song is that everyone needs help, even if they look strong or dependable. For example, I considered my friend to be my therapist because he always shared sad stories and helped me feel better after all. However, one day, he told me he needed me to sit beside him and share his story. He probably felt his soul ruined and heartbroken.

Another excellent turning-songs-into-stories work of art! And Alec's signature of "using the same chorus for different characters in the story" is here again 👌💗

Now that I've listened to the song and watched the video its so well done, almost Alec being the one talking and being the therapist shows him going to see someone, but also that person being himself. Showing he can only rely on himself as like in the lyrics "I dont think that I can be of any help" meaning Alec now has to rely on himself. Amazing lyrics which match the depiction of the video!!

This song is not only a vibe, but it's so relatable! Although I've never seen a therapist, I've asked friends for help. After dumping, you look up and they just have this look of mortification. This song embodies that look. It will be on replay for awhile that's for sure. Thank you Alec!!!

I love how Alec addresses real situations and issued people experience in his songs. People experience searching for help and validation, although sometimes it's not received. His songs give that sense of belonging and relatability.

This song is absolutely amazing.

I hope your Therapist realizes your music helps heals some of us who really need to hear these words. ❤️

SO many times I’ve told my therapist something that she had to really think about before moving on. I hate to think I send her to her own therapist with my worries and such, but I’m afraid I do. This song makes me feel things. Many things. Thank you for another amazing song!

Absolutely blown away by 'I Sent My Therapist To Therapy'! Alec Benjamin always manages to weave raw emotion into his music, and this track hits right in the feels. The storytelling is poignant, the melody hauntingly beautiful. Can't get enough of it! In addition, the imagery perfectly complements the song's emotional depth, creating an immersive experience that stays with you long after the music stops. 💫
