Why not convert most of the funds at retirement to a retirement income fund paying 4.5% and then the capital is preserved and you live off the income kicked off by the $750k. The income would be roughly the same as your example but then you don't have the same risks as depleting principal or removing 4% of your investments if there is a major negative event. I generally don't get the deal with wanting to stop working though, why not find a job you enjoy or even better if you already make a big income in your current job....find a way to enjoy what you do.
