Personally a Few things I find hard to imagine, Portugal going against the UK, the UK magically staying out of wars, China siding with the soviets in the late 80 is complete nonsense, East Germany being allowed to integrate Austria, ignoring the USA exist for a while, and also, the computer was invented end eventually built in our timeline, too. The applications for this (very very slow) computing machine in the 1850s British economy would’ve been extremely limited compared to the academic exchange and other scientists elsewhere being encouraged to think about such machines subsequently and catch up. Think of it as a part of our times to the Industrial Revolution. It wasn’t a magic device and physical technology isn’t that easy to gatekeep. Sure Britain had amazing science and engineers and a vast colonial empire, and yet France, Germany, etc still caught up and became rivals. the British upper classes are focused on exploitation, capitalism and the status quo. Remember what the modern wars did to it. I can imagine that sudden pressure from the Uk would’ve even forced Germany to unify earlier. Imagine the US. Wartime accelerates innovation and if the brits managed to piss of every western power and Westminster unrealistically over decades enacts policies just to fuck with Europe and the US in this scenario to the extent all others declare war, its crazy to me to think that science from Berlin to Paris to Harvard and with their combined established power and tech they´d be willing to sit there, get plucked off one by one and be subjugated by a merchant empire that they would vastly outnumber.
