What if Saban Brands Still Owned Power Rangers?

With all the recent discussion about how Hasbro has handled the Power Rangers brand, I thought it would be fun to think about what I think the franchise would look like right now if Saban Brans never sold Power Rangers.

In my opinion Kyuranger would've have been adapted properly (and the skipped seasons as well) and we gotten our 12 rangers with 2 seasons and 44 eps, like Cosmo Fury is good but too short. Now PR isn't as good as it used to be since I grew up with the Neo-Saban era and I've fully switched to Super Sentai since it's more episodes and more content.

The 2017 film was a bigger box office bomb than Morbius, zero chance it would have gotten a sequel even without Hasbro.

If Saban still had the franchise we would have still gotten more terrible Legacy figures and while we would have gotten Kyuranger adapted, quality-wise it would not have been significantly better than Ninja Steel. The franchise would have been in an even bigger zombie status than it currently is by Hasbro. The franchise would have likely moved to Netflix regardless.

If Saban was still going to make Beast Morphers, then we likely would not have gotten the dino team-up nor the ties into RPM. MAYBE we would have gotten Captain Chaku, but that would have likely been horribly cut down from what we got.

The quality of Ninja Steel was franchise destroying. It was soul crushing. I rather it die then watch more seasons like that

Trust me, the movie tanked. 172 worldwide. Less than 100 mil domestic. On a 100 million $ budget + 70 million in advertising and 30 in toy merch. They lost out big time.

That begs the question: would these seasons be at the quality of Samurai, Megaforce, and Ninja Steel? It’s astonishing how much better Dino charge is than the other neo saban seasons

Neo Saban was worse than anything the franchise had put out till that point. Samurai was a hard watch and I couldn't do anything after that.

IDK, This seems like one of those questions where there is no real concrete answer. Maybe they would of gone through with a sequel to the 2017 movie maybe not. As for the show; depending on how much Beast Morphers was in production before the Hasbro aquesition maybe that would remain mostly unchanged.(IDK about stuff like the DIno teamup arc or the Evox/Venjix reveal.) Maybe Dino fury would of been different, maybe we wouldn't of had Zedd returning. Maybe we could of had a standalone Kyuranger adaptation. Maybe Once and Allways wouldn't have happened for the 30th anniversary. Again, it's all a big stream of maybes for me.

My guess is that if Saban still owned the brand we would have gotten Super Dino Fury instead of Cosmic Fury and we would be doing an adaptation of Zyuohger this year, probably; all with the same shallowness as MMPR. Also, on the toys side it would mean no Lightning Collection as Bandai would likely still have the license and they would be doing their 420th MMPR toyline milking the crap out of the 30th anniversary.

This guy got so lucky being able to sell the franchise twice to make a profit. However, he’s the one that takes a lot of credit from other true heroes that launch the original series like producer, writer, and studio executive that didn’t get a whole lot of name recognition.

Power Rangers was the only reason I would tune in to Nickelodeon. I think it’s time as a cable show is ancient history as difficult as it is to accept.

Power Rangers trended far too much on Netflix to be considered only a minor success. Their YT channel used to gain millions of views to the point where Saban just outright bought the channel from Neo Saban Power Rangers and had the channel owner working for them for a bit. The show was a hit with children on Netflix from time to time until Hasbro effed up and pulled all the seasons. It was one of the most viewed shows on Nick from Samurai all the way up to Ninja Steel. Hasbro hasn't made any good moves. They've just been effin' up left and right, and while the show was not a mega hit in modern times, it was a sustainable show that had good ratings every now and then, and enjoyed regular merch sales. Sure it's not Marvel big but honestly, it doesn't have to be. Greed is not always the answer.

If Saban Brands still owned Power Rangers, it would’ve gotten worse when it comes to adapting seasons. Dino Charge got lucky that it came out good. But after Super Megaforce being complete trash and the entirety of Ninja Steel being a borefest, it was for the best to sell it off. Thankfully we got Beast Morphers and Dino Fury after the Neo Saban era.

The fact that people want Saban back after they made Ninja Steel baffles me. The Neo Saban era contains 8 seasons which people only really like one of them, I would rather have nothing and power rangers dead forever than to have Saban touch the brand ever again.

The crazy thing is that if Hasbro never bought Power Rangers, I would have way more money. I had no interest in Bandai figures, but I loved what I saw from Wave 1 of the Lightning Collection. Lord Zedd was my first taste of a highly articulated figure. After I got Wave 1, I started buying Marvel Legends. Now I'm hooked on Marvel Legends all because Hasbro bought Power Rangers.

I don't think much would have changed, if they just dumped all their money into one excellent live action PR show, then maybe I could see a resurgence and renaissance to the brand but no, I think the well wouldve dried up even quicker and we wouldve seen the hiatus of PR a LOT sooner than we did. Saban is terrible with money, yeah they shelled out the big bucks for the TV show and the toys (most times pre neosaban) but everything past that was so questionable.

The only bad I would have with still saying with Saban is that while we likely still would continue with adaptations we'd still be stuck with the same mandates to the writing we got back with Dino Super Charge. Which just would have hurt the quality of the show in the long run. Beast Morphers and Dino Fury were able to find their ground to work around those mandates but we still would have been stuck with them and likely wouldn't have gotten the same amount of freedom in the writing like we had during the old Saban era and Disney era. Oh and we'd still have the issue of the treatment of the actors. With not hiring union actors because Saban is cheap like that.

That being said from my experience Hasbro likely still would have put mandates in for the show. We already heard about that with Cosmic Fury in terms of what they couldn't do despite being 80% original. This is something they've always done even with Transformers where they will force changes they want for the show when it's not going in the direction they want. Which always conflicts with the writers. Some TF seasons were able to make it work but you could tell it wasn't what the creators originally wanted to do. Even in Earthspark we're already seeing that with the show back pedaling on the Decepticons being the main villains even though at the end of season 1 they were on good terms. As well as just immediately villainizing the Decepticons and the new Terrans and not fully giving them a chance in that they're capable of being good like Megatron. It really just felt like it was going against a lot of the messages season 1 had all because Hasbro got cold feet and wanted to be safe.
