[COMMENTATED TAS] Kirby Super Star Ultra 100% Speedrun - 1:35:09

This is a Tool Assisted Speedrun (with commentary!), meaning this run was made using tools such as frame advance and savestates. This is not meant to be a competitive time nor should it be compared to speedruns done by humans in real time; it is strictly to show what can be done in this game if humans were literally perfect. Enjoy!

I honestly wish more TAS's had commentated versions. As much as I love the chaos of Tool-assisted Speedruns, they often get really boring to me and I end up either falling asleep or clicking off. With commentary Speedruns, it gives me more to focus on and helps me watch the whole thing through.

19:55 is one of the main reasons I love TASs, that movement SENDS me

"It's very important that I hide Meta Knights true identity so no one gets spoiled"
truly a man of honor

52:25 "But who would I be if I didn't flex on the final boss?" I was expecting a rare transformation of stone, but literally flexing on Marx kinda was the only option.

Not only was every second of this fascinating and extremely engaging, you're really funny too, Hiding Meta Knight's face, teasing getting abilities and dying... There's so much fun things you can do with TASes like this, truly marvelous!

My first thoughts upon seeing that there was a commentated version was "this is where the fun *really* begins". I've always enjoyed listening to people actually explaining the crazy tricks used in tases to bring the time down as much as possible(even if I can't understand them a lot of the time)

1:17:45, I totally agree. Love the small time saves because it feels like they have to be thought up and discovered in really creative ways, so it's fun to see tiny mechanics like that implemented to save frames!

As much as I love commentated TAS's, I love your sense of humor. "I refuse to explain this craziness" and "We haven't gone over ninja's above average damage, and we never will" are fantastic lines

The puff backwards thing makes it look like he's shooting out air so he gains speed from the propulsion, which is a fun little aesthetic thing.

Commentated speedruns are a niche that otherwise only AGDQ really provide most of the time.
I really appreciate commentators. Makes even the unoptimal or long speedruns so much more fun to watch.

Honestly one of the best TASs out there. Commentary, absurd movement, weird tech, the works. What really sets it apart is the playabout in autoscrollers/cutscenes though. Most TAS's don't do much, but the little pointless challenges, the absurdly hyperactive movement, and the little touches like stabbing the eye on the frame it explodes, or hitting the background whale really made every second of this run super entertaining :D

The amount of times ive yelled “OHOHOHOOOO” out of pure shock or amazement is enough to probably shake a mountain
Ive played super star ultra for so long and all of this has been the most satisfying thing i’ve ever watched

this was absolutely incredible to watch. i've played maybe 6 or 7 different kirby games to 100% completion, and doing so has always been delightful, if a bit tedious. seeing one of the most content-rich games in the series get absolutely destroyed like this is just so CATHARTIC, and the commentary doesn't disappoint! there's so much more nuance to KSSU's movement tech than i ever could have imagined. i seriously hope this nabs a spot for TAS block at AGDQ because this is just pure unadulterated chaos through and through and i adore it

What I love in TAS is impossibly fast inputs, movements that dance on danger but never fail, and super optimized bosses. This has all of that and more.
Also, commentary, so much better, actually explaining to me the strats.

I'm literally just echoing the sentiments of all the other comments on this video, but this is so incredibly well done! It goes without saying that you're very knowledgable about the game, and you devoted a huge amount of time in producing such an entertaining TAS. But putting in commentary that not only provides in-depth explanations of the content, yet also does so in ways that are incredibly easy to understand without pausing the TAS or otherwise ruining the pacing of the run is an incredible challenge, and you more than rose to the occasion. Not to mention you're a genuinely funny dude.

(Adding this parenthetical here cuz I read some other comments after I posted: I personally was also a fan of the "dead moments" in the vid where there was no commentary. If there's nothing to say, I don't think you need to fill it up with jokes or information that's only tangentially related. Obviously you're free to do whatever feels more natural to you, I just want to say that you shouldn't feel pressured to do so. People are watching for both the TAS and your commentary so imo there's no need for your commentary to be forced. Anyway...) I love stumbling across unexpected diamonds like this vid, because I hop in thinking I'll see what's up for a few minutes, and an hour and a half later, I'm crying because it's almost over. I don't know what inspired you to make this commentated TAS, but I genuinely hope its success inspires you to do more, because you absolutely deserve all the attention this video is getting!

I always knew Stone was a super powerful and underrated ability, and it definitely has nothing to do with the invincibility involved and my own cowardice.

I love TAS's because they show you how PERFECTLY optimized a game can truly be aside from our human dumb fingers. But the commentary just makes it so enjoyable and fun, watched the whole thing and that's something i don't expect from an hour and a half video. Absolutely amazing, thanks a lot!

This was a great watch. The little jokes like you becoming a buff statue when defeating bosses with stone or your interactions with the whale boss were always amusing.
And the explanations were clear and well done, even if it was "still don't know how this works yet..."
Would love to see more vids :D

Dude, you're good at this. There's a misconception with things like this that every second of "dead air" needs to be filled with talking. After a while it all just becomes information white noise and no longer serves its purpose. You know what to say, and when to say it.
