We are SO excited to be boarding our Australia to New Zealand cruise on board the smallest ship from the 'Norwegian Cruise Line', the Norwegian Spirit. This ship will take us on an epic 12-day cruise to New Zealand and somehow, not completely destroy our budget.

In this video, we go into HOW we booked an Australia to New Zealand cruise with such a heavy discount as well as some of the things that unfortunately caught us by surprise.

Oh my goodness, Jordan and Emily! We were THIS close to booking this exact cruise! We swerved last minute to a slightly more expensive option (still purchased on a Black Friday sale though). We ended up on a Virgin Voyage from Melbourne to Auckland! Sorry to hear your experience wasn't all positives, never the less, we are looking forward to following you cruise series!

The service charge (although vary in price) happens on almost all cruise line, not only NCL. You can choose to prepay during booking. But you will see this charge on the majority of cruise lines.

Also with their free at sea program, drink package is very fair. I have a 13 day cruise coming up on the Spirit in March and I paid (during their black Friday campaign) 125€ for the free at sea, which includes the drinking package, 2 specialty dinning, 300 min. Of Internet and 50$ shore excursions credit in each port. And if you prebook excursions online, that 50$ will be deducted and not made as an on board credit.

So definitely don't think that's bad value for a drinking package and the extras. I think about only 1 drink a day will amount to the same price as the package

Literally said “I wonder how many shots that took” for the basketball scene, the way I screamed when the bloopers showed up 😆

Thanks heaps for the cheap cruise tips, I wondered where I could find them - I’ll be cruising soon enough 🎉

Auto daily gratuities are very normal in the cruise industry except in Australia or some UK based cruises. You can have them removed if you want.

No idea on the individual holds for each transaction, only ever had the initial one at check in - the same as you do when checking into hotels for incidentals.

Unfortunately port transfers are increasingly not included these days, all part of cost cutting among all the lines.

It’s a shame you didn’t seem to have a good time, are there going to be more videos from the cruise?

Hi from a subscriber. We went on the Royal Princess cruise that I believe arrived into Tauranga just after your ship on the 7th. Ours pulled in front of yours. We were allowed to walk off the ship yet for some very odd reason they started moving your fellow passengers in small buses past our ship when it was all fenced off to allow you to walk there. NCL eventually stopped this and just allowed passengers to walk off, just crazy. We loved our Princess cruise but were also charged for shuttle buses too, except for Wellington where it was free. The buses were either 15 or 20 dollars pp return to the ship. Other passengers like us didn't like paying for this and we were told they all used to be free. We also had gratuities charged but we had a plus package for about 60 dollars pp per day that included thenm and the drinks and wifi. You could choose not to pay gratuities if charged separately. The staff do work hard and are underpaid I believe so it does help them. We also tipped a few times for those people that gave us tremendous service. We had US dollars left from a previous US trip that we used for this. We also had credit card charges. We had onboard credit that we used to partially pay for one shore excursion. The balance was just added to our onboard account. There was 100 dollars pending or on hold on our credit card on day one but that was all. This was our first ever cruise and while expensive we would gladly do it again as it was so relaxing and generally stress free. We normally travel with hire cars motels or motorhomes which is very tiring and stressful. Looking forward to more episodes on the ports you visited.

Appreciate the honest review… it’s been over 10 years since our last cruise on Holland America which was excellent, but I understand all the lines are now really pushing the onboard spending more than ever due to high demand. **sigh** Your itinerary sounds wonderful… looking forward to the next episode!

Most cruise lines don't cover the shuttle buses in NZ unfortunately

If you would have booked with a travel agent they could have told you about some of those charges before hand. I’m getting ready to go on a cruise and already have the gratuity paid for. Plus I will be adding extra money to the card that will be used on the ship to make sure everything is covered. Although I haven’t been told about any hold charges.

You get what you pay for; NCL is basically geared towards the US travelled and North America market.
Tipping is expected, unlike in Australia; port transfers are extra and not included . As far as credit card holds, that is also common but should not be an issue unless you have a very low credit line like a few hundred dollars!

I see vacations to go as your source for booking; which is a US online travel agency based in Texas and geared towards the US market.

Nothing in your "negatives" is unique to Norwegian. Those charges are standard practice across the industry. You may want to research and address them in another video. Poor personal planning and research isn't the fault of the company you chose to use.

They do nickel and dime. Cruise to Alaska, been booked since before covid. Refused refund everything in cruise credits. They literally held money hostage. Still no cruise its been 4 years of Nickel and dime. Saying we owe and excursions aren't even bo9ked. It was 100% paid prior to covid all excursions booked and paid. Sept going to Alaska I pray. Then never again

So you were basically scammed 🤦🏻‍♂️ But you know what they say: "When it's too good to be true, it probably is" 😅
PS: Emily is such a liar, she said she got it in the first try 😂 🏀

All of the complaints that you have are actually fairly common. I agree that they're crappy, but Norwegian isn't the only cruise line that does it. Not by a long shot. If you got the cruise cheap, you're winning.
