Is This Adorable Animal Going Extinct?

The pika is one of the cutest animals on Earth. The Huffington Post claims they're going extinct. How true is this?

Now I need to know why the Pika relocates outside its core element. Overpopulation of Pikas or predators, lack of food, human encroachment? So many questions -- so little time.

These guys live in the mountains where I climb in the summer. I even named one ares "Pikatopia" because they are (still) so numerous. They not only are super cuddly but make a cute squeaky toy call:

In the mountains you have high elevation. This means low pressure, which means low temperature, due to ideal gas laws.

I would like to see rabbits used as the poster child here in Texas. It seems like we will be overrun with rabbits in a few years. Sadly, the natural predator are around, but in such low numbers.
