I have this tool, well, had it (I'll explain). Our car would not start. I told my wife's mother to hook up the cables. When she did, the jump box blew up throwing her about 100 feet into the air and down a steep canyon. Search and rescue crews are looking for her now. So, I guess this is a good tool.

(update): They finally found her. She is ok because she landed on her thick hard head. She is in shock and cannot speak so, I guess that is good.

The Ryobi one is supercapacitor based and uses the lithium battery to charge the supercapacitor then the supercapacitor jumps the car. I gave up on the standard battery-based jump packs a while ago since they usually just sit in the car (forgotten about) until and the batteries die. I switched to a supercap one from OzCharge and it works great especailly with being able to jump off an essentially dead car battery. I can charge it off an M12 if needed as it doesn't like the higher voltages of the 18V tool batteries (that was a bummer figuring that out). It'll even charge up off USB (though it supposedly takes like 25 minutes per jump attempt). Not super useful, but i like that they give the option in a pinch.

First, I'd get busy locating the reason for the drain on the car battery. Time to clean and silicon spray the wire connectors? Check for squirrel chewing on the under carriage wires? Because that's one of our main problems in Fall when the little boogers get hungrier. 😂 Lots of good information about a product I would Think might be good, and yet not for us. We've got a two battery E350 diesel, so I don't think the tool would work. However, if we had a little sedan, I'd buy it and toss it in the trunk. The USB port would really help if you need to make a call from a parking lot far from home when you can't start the car. I would also toss in the Makita battery powered coffee maker to stay sane while awaiting rescue. My dad used to just unhook the battery on cold nights and bring it in the house.

You don’t need it because it won’t start a lawnmower. I have Dewalt everything, along with piles of batteries. This thing won’t touch my diesel or my f150. Cables are too short, the light is worthless as it faces the wrong way and I don’t need to charge anything off a usb port. I want a battery jump pack, not a usb hub. Glad it works for you but this is the first Dewalt tool I e purchased in years that I’ve been unhappy with.

I have this, it's not very good. For me, it seems to only be good for a weak battery. Essentially your car battery should actually attempt to crank, but just not have enough to get it started. This will work. If the battery is so weak, that it doesn't even attempt to crank, then this thing is pointless. Dewalt does randomly make some bad cordless products and this is one of them. I suggest not wasting your money on it. You're better off getting something like a Hulkman jump starter. They start at the same price as this thing, except it has the battery built in. They're also smaller, so you can toss it into your glove box.

I was really hoping to like this thing, since I have like 10 Dewalt batteries for all my various tools, but nope. I think they should go back to the drawing board on this. Sadly, I already wasted my money on it.

Ampacity of #12 gauge wire is 20Amps, that sucker will burn up on continuous cranking. Good for a few short seconds only. There is no compressor like other models. Need external battery at additional cost. 1 year warranty. So many cost cutting issues. Why not get a real one with internal battery, USB, light, compressor, and 120V output? Or get one of those lithium ion pocket starters, draw back is battery not replaceable, good for about 5 years.
