@weirdodinho -15-48 = -63, 20 - 36 = -16 and so -63 divided by - 16 = 63/16

Not really IMO. Can it be done on a calculator? For some of the basic angles that are made up from multiples of 30 and 45, yes. However, this is not always going to work, so I am afraid that the quadrant rule is most probably your best bet.

Couldn't you use pythagorus theorem to find cosA and sinB and then use the double angle formulae from there?

I don't get all this quadrant business. Is there another method of working out whether the values will be positive or negative, also can it be done purely on a calculator? Thanks.

one thing i don't get is when we have the quadrant diagram, and the angle is greater than 90*, how do we know which angle within the triangle we "work with"? if there's a video tutorial where you explain this, please refer me to it

i dont understand how -15-48/20-36 gives you 63/16, i thought it would be a negative value?

@ExamSolutions i know it does but you didnt divide a negative by a negative. You did -15-48 and got +63 and you did 20-36 and got +16???
