The Sweep has got the "right stuff", great knowledge and timing - holding back for the end of that set, picking off a smaller, but no less malevolent wave, then SO well ridden. I wish my dad could see this, he was a bow - rower.

Love to read more about the actual rescues these boats could perform. Did they sit out the back beyond the breakers picking up swimmers caught in a rip? As magnificent as these long boats are, there’s not a surf lifesaver (or swimmer) that wouldn’t have welcomed the introduction of inflatable rescue boats with powerful outboards.
