In this video, I take you through a journey of creating levels in Geometry Dash starting from Update 1.0 all the way to Update 2.2. Along the way, I demonstrate the new features and tools that were introduced in each update. Things really start to get crazy in Update 2.2

I think deleting objects was always there, my guess is that you had to click the object you wanted to delete when "Delete" was selected.

Update 2.2 is the upcoming twelfth major update of Geometry Dash with no set release date.

On 21 December 2017, Geometry Dash Lite was updated to 2.2 with the following:

On 27 May 2022, Geometry Dash Lite was updated to 2.21 with the following:

On 14th August 2021, RobTopGames posted the official sneak peek for Update 2.2 on Youtube, marking the record longest wait for a sneak peek at 1670 days, or approximately over four and a half years.
As of December 16th, 2022, Update 2.2 has had the longest wait of any Geometry Dash update, at 5 years 11 months, or about 5 years 1 month if Updates 2.1 and 2.11 are considered separate.
As of June 21, 2020, the Geometry Dash community has waited for half the game's existence for 2.2, or the waiting time for all other major updates combined.
As of February 20, 2022, including the waiting time for 2.11, the main Geometry Dash game has gone half of its entire existence without any updates to it whatsoever.
As of April 30, 2022, this includes the release of Geometry Dash SubZero, meaning that Geometry Dash as a franchise has gone half of its existence without any official content updates whatsoever.
As of July 9, 2022, this was the 2, 000th day since the release of 2.1 on Steam, therefore the 2, 000th day of waiting for 2.2.
Update 2.2 is currently the update with the most previews and sneak peeks.
The Newgrounds song problem with it not allowing 7-digit songs has been fixed as of January 2021.
Update 2.2 was originally going to be a small update, but RobTop stated that "the update grew bigger as time went on".
Update 2.11 was originally meant to be a small "pre-update", but it has been the latest update for over three years.
RobTop started to reveal plans for 2.2 before 2.1 was even released, when he teased the new camera controls.
He also has done this for Update 2.3 during 2.2's development, teasing another new gamemode.
Update 2.2 will be the fourth consecutive update to feature a new game mode.
Update 2.2 will be the biggest and probably heaviest update to Geometry Dash so far, with at least 65 new features.
As of 7 Jan 2021, previews have been revealed of 48 cubes, 5 ships, 6 balls, 1 UFO, 4 waves, 1 robot, 2 spiders and 5 of the upcoming form.
At least one new preview has been revealed for each gamemode, including the new gamemode that is expected to release in 2.2.
RobTop had originally planned for Update 2.2 to release for both Geometry Dash and Geometry Dash World before Christmas 2020, when another Geometry Dash standalone expansion was also talked about being released. However, this did not go to plan as expected as the update is still yet to release.
Since then, RobTop has stated that there are plans to release the update by the end of 2022.[Discord 1]
The icon contest results for this update have several Easter Eggs referencing the Geometry Dash community, including:
A number of famous creators and streamers represented by their icons, such as Juniper, Technical, AmorAltra, AeonAir, Viprin, and more.
A sign labelled "PP" in the first results image, a reference to the level PP by AmorAltra.
A building covered in yellow hexagons with faces in the first image, referencing C.S.Q.N. by Bluskys.
A red circle character in the second results image resembling the character Jeremy from the level Your Brain on Drugs by Jayuff.
A blue and white cube (Rafer) fishing a gray and red cube (Alkali) out of the water in the second image, a reference to the animations made for Rafer's levels In Silico and Sky Tower.
A computer with a green smiley face in the second image, most likely a reference to Computer Talk by 1374.
Knots and Xender Game's original characters having a picnic in the second image, referencing Dream Flower.
A volcano in the third image, representing Magma Bound by ScorchVX.
The 3D-like wave from the level HOW by Spu7nix in the third image.
The large lava monster from Haze N Blaze by Unzor in the third image.
Multiple large characters in the background of the fourth image, referencing popular boss levels such as CastleMania, The Mayhem War, Better Than Reality, and Ultra Violence.

Many 2.2 triggers and controls have been used in Geometry Dash SubZero.
There have been multiple hacked/modified APKs (Android application packages, used to install and run apps) created out of Geometry Dash spinoff games that allow the use of 2.2 features:
SMJS has created versions of Geometry Dash World, Geometry Dash SubZero, Geometry Dash Meltdown, and Geometry Dash Lite that allow usage of new 2.2 features such as camera effects and a removed object limit, but don't feature the new gamemode, the new gauntlets, the multiplayer feature, or any new secrets, shops, or icons.[verification needed]
A modified APK was released by Blaze, where the 2019 version of the 2.2 level editor can be accessed. There are many things inside of this editor which are not inside other 2.2 editors, such as more camera controls, pixel art blocks, and the new gamemode, among others. This was later reworked into the GDPS Editor private server.[verification needed]
Cvolton released full unlocks of Geometry Dash Lite, Geometry Dash World and Geometry Dash Meltdown after their respective 2.2 updates in 2022.[verification needed]
RobTop himself realizes that these versions exist and has commented on them being "a really old version" that he doesn't mind, although it has been useful for him to spot bugs and gameplay issues in levels created with them.[Discord 2]
