Ukulele Funk Strumming : You Have To Do This First - Important Strumming and Rhythm Info

There's a bit of a play along of "Stand By Me" towards the end as well! Those chords are C Am F G

If you struggle with more complicated strums, such as my Basic Strum #2 that I use a lot on the channel, this lesson might be helpful - it has some basic rhythm information about how strums are organized in relation to rhythm. Spoiler alert : the terrible truth of strumming well is that you have to have to good rhythm, and that takes practice!

Amazing lesson! I like how you lead us from playing "mechanically" at first to finding "our strum." I have very accomplished guitar playing friends (I'm a ukulele player) who have told me that I just need to "feel" the strum. Your lesson gave me a pathway from playing mechanically to feeling the strum. Thank you.

Good job 👌
Tough to teach rhythm.
I syncopate a lot which can throw straight strummers off. Put them both together and we never miss a beat!
Funny how we don't know what or how we are doing until we break it down. Want to be a better strummer??? Teach! Right?
Practice, practice, practice. How do you think Liberace got all those diamonds!?!?!?
Who's Liberace? 😆 Lol
Love your style!

I really loved this updated lesson after trying to follow your original video on "basic" strumming 2. Could I offer some feedback to you to go slower in your videos? Even talking through the lesson as well as playing the strum starts off so quickly it's difficult to follow even as I pause and replay. It can help beginning/intermediate players to start slow and then build up to fast strumming so it's broken down. Otherwise, I'd love to follow your channel because you got good ideas and a great voice!

Great video Brooke! You brought up a great point on having to practice rhythm. It’s not fun to do but necessary if you want to do funkier strums

Crazy how one analogy can change everything. Like the syllable instead of 1 e and a.
Side note. You should do musicals. It’s amazing how you can simply go from talking into song Haha

Your basic strum 2 is really awesome, I'm determined to learn it! What I would really find helpful is to be able to listen to it for a while and get into it. Would you be able to post a video of you doing this strumming pattern continuously using any chord progression, or just play the accompaniment to a song (an instrumental)? I think a few minutes of listening to it would really solidify the feel for it, thank you!

2:45 subdividing the beat into 1e&a2e&a3e&a$e&a (as opposed to 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and)
4:56 D D U U D D U M U
1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a

Is this correct?
