This is an older model of what is still a current product and it is very handy it's a depth micrometer that allows you to check things like snapping grooves and o-ring grooves, etc

Starrett was one of the best brands of older micrometers. I calibrated 100s of these in my 20 years in the USAF.

I watched a movie about a machinist. He incredibly skinny, you could see what his skeleton would look like. That is dedication to a role. I remember he was hiding a dark secret, I guess it affected his appetite. I haven't trusted a machinist since.

Looking at the font on the tool and that it is in a wooden case, that is a very old one. Many of the Starrett's in wooden cases no longer have the lids because the lids were removed to fit the lower case into a drawer of a machinist's tool box. I have a newer one (30 years old) and it comes in a red case. I think it is more accurate then a dial caliper especially when measuring piston height.

What will really mess you up is a bridge mic. Reads forwards and backwards.

Wonder what originally went in the other slot in the box?
